They must have updated the image files when they took down the separate update file because it installed and the store now works.

When I have a chance later this afternoon, I'll open that package and confirm that it contains the new TLS 'fix'.

This S.O. device has the cpu governor control menu installed.
Setting it to 'performance' certainly helps getting through that list of books.

That is great to know since I still haven't updated my "new" k3.

If I can confirm those are the 'fixed' firmware releases, I'll post them on the same distribution cloud services I am using for the JB files.
Then index them with a thread here, that way they will not get 'lost' again.

I'm the OP and very grateful for all the commentary but wanted to apologize that I won't be able to capitalize on any of it for 10 days now, because of travel beyond decent/convenient wifi AND cell range.
I'll tackle it upon return.
Just a note - this is not my first K5 so yes, I'm sure there is no 3G connection. Wireless connection can be turned off/on, but when off, the place for the 3G indicator is the tiny dotted flat line, if anything. I'd suspect the seller took out the 3G card, but the case is pristine, so I'm hoping it's a software thing and Kubrick here I come.

Unless you use a very large pocket knife to open the case, it should look 'pristine'.
I.E: Only open, no carving required.

It was the K4 that had a pound or two of glue holding it together.
