The difference between Linux and Windows/Mac is that most people never had to install the OS, it just comes with the computer. The manufacturer makes sure that all the specific drivers for everything on the computer are installed.

Also drivers for printers, WiFi, etc. can be more problematic on Linux (depending on whether your printers etc. are compatible).

But if you were to buy a machine with Linux installed (say...System 76) and you have or buy printers, scanners, etc. that Support Linux....THEN it indeed is just like Windows or Mac

In linux' favour, a number of distros have done great things with the software install. I've installed a number of laptops and desktops without needing to do a thing with drivers and the like... just the usual questions that even Windows asks upon starting up for the first time. (Location, time zone, etc.)
