Kobo Forma with light defect now one year old
I'm wondering if it's about time for a revamped Kobo Forma, one to replace the one year-old device with the 'Dreaded Line of Light' issue.
The new one would be....oh, $30 or so less expensive...and have no 'Dreaded Line of Light' playing games with one's mind. I may have to wait for the new one, due probably right after Christmas or on Mother's Day Any thoughts from the wise and the not-so-wise? |

I’d maybe expect one next year around the end of Summer.

I just bought a Kobo Forma (complete with the dreaded line of light)--so, knowing my luck, a new release is imminent!

We don't know if/when a new and 'corrected' Forma will be introduced. For me, I would be really pissed to buy one and then have a new one come out a few months later. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 11-10-2019 at 03:20 PM. |

I find it fairly irritating that the Forma has been out so long and the “band” is still a thing.
It must necessitate a design overhaul to actually solve a bit better. Perfection in the lighting is probably asking too much, but better than it currently is should be expected for a mid $200’s too of the line reader. |

In any case, a flagship $250 device shouldn’t have the problem by design, period. |

Also, your tone here feels a bit condescending.
Please ease up a bit. Last edited by bookyboy; 11-12-2019 at 11:12 AM. |

Because it's not the same type of design. Oasis relies on its aluminum body to hold everything together whereas Forma uses a thin bezel. The tradeoffs make for a more durable device (yes, really) with less mass per unit volume.

So, is this an issue on all of the Formas, or just some of them?

All. But how much it bothers people is widely varied with some people being unable to ignore it, some able to ignore it, and some not even noticing it. No one of those groups is right or wrong.
Should Kobo redesign the next Forma to prevent this? Probably. But it depends on what they need to give up to do so. |

I really hope Kobo makes a 7 to 8 inch device that has hardware buttons on both sides.
Sort of like a larger Kindle Voyage but with real buttons. Or perhaps the rumored next Voyage might fit that bill. I love that Nook hardware, but the software is egregious. |

The Libra doesn't need buttons on both sides. It flips quickly if you swap the side the buttons are on.
