Hi

I have the Kobo ArcHD 10 and I just did a hard reset.
Now it wont connect to my wifi?
I have tried different wifi's. Power cycling my wifi.
I wish I knew of this before resetting the device.

I followed the steps in above posts and from below link

Didn't work. I'm so annoyed right now.
Why do I have to update before a reset?
Why cant I just update after connecting to my wifi??

Please someone come up with a work around

1: Enable usb debugging
Boot the arc 10 hd
When The keyboard pops for the password.
Press on the keyboard settings button. Which in my case is the key at the bottom left.
Select Google Keyboard Settings

The Settings app will open.
Now you should be able to connect to the Wifi.
Go to "About Kobo Arc 10HD"
Tap 7 times on "Kernel version" (or Build Number). This will activate the "Developer options"
In "Developer options", activate USB debugging.

2: Enable root
To enable root, I used the cydia impactor method of this thread ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=2507886) . However, the newest application does not work, so I had to use an old version.

3: Remove blootware
Open an adb shell
In the adb shell type su to go in root

Use this command to make the system directory writable
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
go to system/app directory and then remove the apk you no longer want. I removed some Kobo apk.

cd system
cd app
rm KoboSetupWizard.apk
rm KoboJIT.apk
rm KoboReader.apk
rm KoboStubs.apk

I also went to data\data to remove the com.kobo.setupwizard directory, but I don't think it is necessary:
rm -r com.kobo.setupwizard

Can you please explain step #3 in more detail please step by step.
What I should type and where.
Please make "quotation marks" of what we should be typing.
Example
shell@android:/ "$ pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.kobo.jit"

I keep getting
Error: Unknown Option: --user

just bin it.
even if you somehow fix it, its ancient tech. most apps will not work because it lacks modern android security.....

do you really need something that only runs a botched version of android 4 , when the west of the world is buying android 10 ?

I got all the way to step 3. But that's where I got lost...
I have tried to Youtube the steps to better understand what is happening.

I get

shell@android:/ $ pm list packages

then it shows all my packages for the kobo

then type in su for root

root@android/#

I put in the

mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

nothing happens.

Well it looks like my original Kobo Arc battery has bit the dust. 8 years of total lifetime and it has been resting for several of those.

Android 4.0.4 is really showing its age.

I forgot to take a picture of the battery while I had it open but found one online. A replacement is not easily found and is really not worth it at this point in time.

It was a fun run with this tablet. I learned a lot about Android development using this.

I got a kobo arc 7 stock on wifi also (without keyboard!)... but I was able to SOLVE the issus with windows 10 PC.

Here is what I have done:
1. Download the GOOD tls-update-ota303.zip file on archive.org (https://web.archive.org/web/20210220...ate-ota303.zip) Don't go on the KOBO site, the file is corrupt...

2. Plug your KOBO with USB (with battery chaged or wait a night).

3. Looking for ARC 7 in "This PC", then copy the file "tls-update-ota303.zip" to ARC 7, not in a folder, but in the root.

4. Rename "tls-update-ota303.zip" to "update.zip".

5. Unplug and restart your tablet. update firmware start.

6. For me, I was able to go online after and I got another update for the device. Everything works fine now.
