It's also a question of how much current just having WiFi on takes too.
I took a peek at the internet addresses used in (Poke3 3.1) KCB.apk. Probably most of them are things that get used under your command. The 192.168 stuff appears to be Onyx test servers. Spoiler:

I use philosophical and intellectual approaches (like Edward Snowden, Alexander Bard, Jaron Lanier etc.) to keep myself away from any paranoia regarding the shadowy data collection from virtually all sides when using internet wired electronical devices. Practically I try to implement everything that a simple user can do trying to corrupt the data collected. I see that as a more realistic approach than trying to hide everything. I even made a intellectual construct of a data scrambler: A software that imitates realistic online behaviour when oneself is not online. Potentially if enough people would use such a thing collectors will know and they will also know that the data collected is corrupt and in the end this BS starts collapsing at a bigger scale. Stupid dream of a technical Neanderthal.
Not to be too off topic: With an onyx I would probably create a new google account. That's about all. Could possibly manage to implement my VPN directly through the router. As it is with VPNs it complicates data collection while your not anonym and one does not know anything about the servers that the VPN company uses...everything else is to complicated for me. I have no idea where to even start if I would want to block things via router. However, power consumption works like: lighted screen>Wi-Fi/internet>software. With the onyx also refresh settings will probably cause more or less drain. I will certainly have Wi-Fi off most of the time and using the onyx without or with very little frontlight on. Wi-Fi just for updates off the device and the few android apps I intend to use (iA writer, NZZ, blinkist and for my disappointment I will also try Adobe DRM app cause I have quite a few DRM E-Books and DeDRM plugin doesn't work on many of them...). At the moment I'm waving between nova air and note air 2. Power-wise the note air 2 seems more reliable + I would also like to use note taking besides typewriting and the nova air is note even A5 format. All in all I think that for my project Onyx + Bluetooth keyboard is in a lot of ways a better compromise than a Kobo Sage + Freewriter (initial plan) or 13" E-Ink screen + Keyboard + raspberry (cool but to expensive and complicated and less mobile....) I went with the note air 2 and bt keyboard solution. The note air 2 should arrive tomorrow. Excited to test my approach and the device. A Mira would be to costly especially cause onyx doesn't really have a lot of trust from my side. Still a risky buy but I don't see much alternative at the moment from the competition regarding multi functional E-ink devices...

How the development will play out has of course to be seen yet. With onyx at the moment I guess you just have to narrow down what you want to do and then spend a lot of time setting the device up for it, getting to know it on a deeper level and after that I expect a usable and relatively uncomplicated but still a bit cumbersome experience. I may describe my findings after some testing here in the forum. Maybe some kind of practical review in form of a little report with the leading Question what happens in day to day use when trying to organize most of private writing in my life with an onyx. Could be interesting for some people and I will do the testing anyway. |

What a coincidence, I've also got an alert form the customs today to pay customs for the package, which I'm going to get tomorrow

The only a bit bigger negative thing so far is that the screen without front-light isn't paper white (as for example with my kobo). It rather looks like recycled unbleached paper. It is OK for me as the rendering itself is really good. Probably not as crispy as with the best readers out there but that's something I at least would just notice in a direct comparison. I already got used to the rather greyish background and with just a little front-light it's almost paper white. Still waiting for the bluetooth keyboard to arrive so I can start my testing. Interested in my deep guides coming review and dedicated costumer feedback here. It is probably the only serious way to use a PC/MAC with an e-ink screen. Why the possibility is there with the other onyx tablets it's more like a feature because one will just kill the battery of in null time when frequently using the onyx tablets as monitor...that is the second reason besides portability why I go with a bt keyboard instead. In my case it is just for typewriting anyway... |

I'm not sure I know what you mean. Probably I should've put it like this: "My Deep Guide". It is a YouTube channel from a guy named Voja. He produces the most thorough and transparent reviews of readers and e-ink devices one could find at the moment. Here you go: My Deep Guide

If anyone is interested, I posted a short paragraph about my experiences with Hisense Q5 on another thread
Just a note relevant to this thread: Comparing Onyx Max carta to Onyx Max 2, the gray screen was the first thing I noticed, this is nothing comparing again Max 2 to Q5, the latter's screen is definitely metal-gray. |

Hello everyone!
I am configuring vnc connection on note air 2, it's both server (termux/tigervnc) and receiver (real vnc app) Coud you please help with following: 1. I used following settings: vncserver -localhost -geometry 1404x1872 -dpi 226 -depth 24 Does it look correct to you? I am confused which resolution to use in geometry (1404x1872 which is physical resolution, or 936×1248 (DPR 1.50) which is shown when i visit what's my viewport online tester page, i guess it's called logical) 2. How my vcnserver command will change if my home PC will be receiver (both physical and logical resolutions are 1680x1050 (DPR 1.00), dpi 96) 3. How my vcnserver command will change if my home PC will be server? |

A couple questions--
Would the Boox Max3 work as a decent monitor? If not, where would be a good place to order the Boox Mira? The Boox shop in the United States doesn't sell it. Good e-reader does, but a lot of people on this site don't trust them. |

Is that EU + GB only? I can't search for any other options, because that side is full of animation. Including zooming animation.
Because of the uncertainties around shipping, I'm considering getting a Max3 instead, even if it's not as good. Last edited by MarjaE; 01-04-2022 at 12:52 AM. |
