Vorlesefunktion in Deutsch auf Tablet oder Reader?

Hallo,
ein Freund kann fast nichts mehr sehen und das wird wohl noch anhalten.
Welches Gerät hat den die beste Vorlesefunktion für deutschsprachige Bücher?
Ist es verständlich?
Und welche Formate kann man überhaupt vorlesen lassen?
Soweit ich mich erinnern kann, hat Amazon 2009 erlaubt das die Vorlesefunktion beim Kindle auch deaktiviert werden kann von den Verlagen. Weiß jemand ob dies bei anderen Geräten auch so ist, bzw. wieviel "Prozent" der Bücher gesperrt sind?

Beim Googeln habe ich die Vorlesefunkion von IBooks entdeckt, hat jemand erfahrungen damit.

Ich kenne diese "Text-to-Speech"-Engines u.a. von meinem Handy (Android).
Für kürzere Ansagen (z.B. beim Navigieren etc.) finde ich das ja ganz brauchbar - aber ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass ich das auf Dauer (d.h. für ein ganzes Buch) durchhalten würde. Die computergenerierte Stimme kann ja nicht nach der betroffenen Person oder Stimmung unterscheiden, dadurch ist es m.E. sehr anstrengend, dieser zu folgen.
Wären nicht "richtige" Hörbücher und ein geeigneter MP3-Player mit "echten" Tasten besser geeignet für Deinen Freund?

Aktuell unterstützen nur Pocketbook Geräte eine Vorlesefunktion in Deutsch. Über die Qualität schreiben besser die Besitzer des Geräten....

Ob man Computerstimmen hören mag oder nicht, ist Geschmackssache. Ich mag es sehr gerne, mir beim Bügeln, Fensterputzen usw was vorlesen zu lassen. Es gibt inzwischen sehr gute Stimme, die überhaupt nicht mehr so klingen, wie Stephen Hawking.
