Books that make you laugh -- recommendations

Anybody reading any really funny books right now?

I just finished The Salmon of Doubt (never got to it when it came out), which was terrific, especially if you are a Hitchhiker's Guide/Douglas Adams fan, and I am currently reading You Suck: A Love Story by Christopher Moore -- so far, it is pretty hilarious and a great, original vampire story.

I was laughing so hard when I read this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_I_Won_The_War by Patrick Ryan that I had tears in my eyes. There are many books that make you smile, even chuckle sometimes, but there are only very few ones that induce frequent bouts of wild, uncontrollable laughter.

If you like cozy mysteries, read "Murder with Peacocks" by Donna Andrews. It's the start of a series, however it's not available as an ebook (the last three in the series are, though). A female blacksmith is the maid-of-honor in three weddings (her mother, best friend and brother) in one summer and while this is going on a murder occurs next door (her stepfather-to-be's sister-in-law). Whenever I re-read this book, I'm dying of laughter.

Great recommendations, tks -- funny that you mention P.G. Wodehouse -- the first I heard of him was actually last week, while reading The Salmon of Doubt, where Adams mentions him as his favorite author

Woody Allen (if you can get over the fact that he married his stepdaughter, which is a really weird thing to do) has written some very funny books.

The Insanity Defense: The Complete Prose (Paperback) is comprised of Getting Even (1971), Without Feathers (1975), and Side Effects (1980), and is available from Amazon for $10.85. None of these earlier books are available for the Kindle.

There is a Kindle Edition of his new one, Mere Anarchy. This is the first book of humor he has written in 25 years.

This is one sad thread. yet again, the ultimate series has not been mentioned.

If you want some real good laughs, go for the entire Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

That depend entirely on your particular sense of humour The little I have read of Pratchett, I found slightly overdone or overmuch or just something too much to be good.
