What programs do you use to import books into Calibre?

Okay, so I know only 2 ways to get books into Calibre:

- Sony Reader

- Kindle for Desktop

What other ways are there?

The only time I open up the Sony Reader software is when I'm forced to buy a book from there (not my first choice though, so it's not often, I try DRM-free stores first). All you need it Calibre, nothing else like Sweatpea said.

You can also use the "Add Books" button from Calibre also and just point to whatever directory the ebooks are in.

Okay, this is what I'm not sure of - when I download a DRM book from say Books on Board, which doesn't have it's own PC based or ereader based software, what program do you save it to?

If you save it to Calibre then it's the ACSM version that you're downloading and that shows up in Calibre. Then if you go to open that it auto opens in my Sony PC Reader.

My understanding is that Calibre can't open ACSM files until they have been downloaded into Epub files.

Is that correct?

I'm not talking here about the Alf Plugins, but about the process of downloading an ACSM file and if it needs to be converted into an Epub prior to being imported into Calibre.

Thanks Kovid - I was correct in the way I was doing things.

Suddenly occurred to me that there may be another way.

Thanks again
