Michael doesn't live here anymore.

And his sources are somewhat dubious...and often laughable.

The warm light and the spring release match the Oasis 3. It is likely that was the product actually referenced by those rumors.

I've noticed a scornful attitude towards 'thegoodereader' on this forum. Do you know why people dislike him/his site so much? To me, there are plenty of garbage news sites, but I don't get why his is worse than any other.

Because he steals from other bloggers without giving credit. Then his predictions (usually based on "what if" blog posts) are usually totally fabricated using the usual anonymous "insiders" as a "source."

Isn't the history of copyright infringement of commercially published books even worse? And if he has turned over a new leaf on that, there is still the recent shafting of paying customers for ereader devices.

The problem with the goodereader blog is that it's about all we have left. Teleread has a new article about once a week, although not every week. The Digital Reader doesn't have a new article every day anymore. The Ebook Reader Blog has even fewer new articles.

The other active blogs are very slick and seem focused on selling their point of view. The only ereader blog with news on a regular basis is goodereader and we can't trust it.

I wouldn't say Good Ereader is totally untrustworthy. For the record, they generally do a nice job of reviewing devices and covering the ebook/e-ink industry. Like you said, there's nobody else out there doing e-reader news on a regular basis so the blog does serve a useful purpose.

What they catch a lot of flack for however is the so-called insider info and predictions which often turn out to be wrong. Last year they said the Kindle Paperwhite would have a color temperature system. That obviously wasn't the case. They also speculated that Kobo might be developing the Mini 2 (how I wish this were true!). Instead, Kobo released the Clara HD shortly thereafter. It's hard to tell whether the "inside scoop" they claim to have is real or just wishful thinking/conjecture.

That being said, I still follow their Youtube channel and blog but take predictions about anything with a grain of salt.

That came "before my time." I'm just going by what I've personally seen him do. Apparently people who are ordering various manufacture's readers on his website are getting them, but I don't know what happened with the crowd-funded ones (that's probably what you're talking about).

I agree that they serve a useful purpose but I also find them unreliable. They often get things wrong or don't really understand things in their reviews.

I read them daily now that there isn't anyone else doing an ereader blog and I often watch their reviews. The other blogs, when they were doing reviews, got things right a lot more often.

Now that neither of them are doing much I wonder where Goodereader will get their stories.

I just recently read a Forbes review about the best ereaders in 2019 (https://www.forbes.com/sites/hnewman...aders-of-2019/)
Quote:
Unlike the Paperwhite, which requires on-screen swiping or tapping, the Oasis includes page-turn buttons. (Unfortunately, these are only on the right side, so beware, southpaws.) Pages rotate automatically when you turn the device, similar to your phone.
That's two facts wrong in three sentences. And it's not a GoodEReader review.

Goodereader has posted another prediction of this for 2020. Up to 10.1 inches, with buttons and warm lighting, apparently.
