ADE Activations: back up & activation counter reset

Just a friendly reminder that there is a limit as to how many devices you can activate with Adobe Digital Edition (ADE).

This means that you will run into the "Too Many Activations" problem with ADE if you flash your IQ a lot and you actually use your IQ to read DRM books.

Backup your ADE Activation:

You should backup your .adobe-digital-editions folder and save a copy of this folder to your PC. I also zip the folder and place a copy on my SD card.

As this is a hidden folder, you need an app that is able to see hidden files/folders. I use Astro.

To summarize, back up:
/.adobe-digital-edition
activation.xml
device.xml

Update:

Backing up the the .adobe-digital-edition folder and restoring the folder alone did not preserve the ADE registration.

Backing up using Titanium Backup and restoring the system data did work.

Request ADE Activation counter reset:

In the case that you run into the "too many activations" error, you need to contact Adobe to reset the counter by submitting a webcase. For me, Adoble took less then 24 hours to reset my counter.

As the webpage is not user friendly, here are the steps:

Go to: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/suppor...rtal&loc=en_us

Go to "Get Support"

Go to the "Techinical Support" tab

For "Choose issue type" select "Using a product or service"

For "Choose product", first select "Additional Products"

Then select "Adobe Digital Editions"

Now you can send off your message requesting Adobe to reset your counter.

Thanks to Jim Lester, Adobe Employee over at the Adobe forum, for the above tips.

Cheers
