Large Print ebook

I'm amused. I borrowed "James Patterson - 1st Case" from the Toronto Public Library and had it fulfilled by Kobo. The cover image includes the words "LARGE PRINT".

Not sure I've seen a large print ebook before

I once bought an ebook from the old Sony store where the font was huge and I couldn't make it smaller. I contacted Sony and they got it fixed so I was able to adjust the font size, but before that it was definitely a large print ebook!

Somewhere in my collection I have an ebook that credits the type of paper it was printed on.

I'm guessing it was a scan.

Can't remember which part of the forum it was in, but I recall a recent thread where people were talking about those "if the cover is missing, you didn't get this legitimately" messages that still show up in some ebooks.

I've got one of those. I don't think it was a scan though. It looks more like they generated the ebook from the electronic ready to print version of the original manuscript. There were other items such as the ISBN being for the print edition. I will admit that I snorted coffee when I read that the ebook was printed on acid-free paper.

I've seen some print books that used paper and fonts that would make them poor candidates for scanning and OCR. A large print version would likely be a better candidate. Text would be larger relative to any texture in the paper and the font used would likely be an easier to read font. The two would make OCR more accurate.

I'd guess they used a cover image from the large print version.

Honestly a lot of back catalog ebooks are vaguely lazy cash grabs.
