In the past week I've watched four chapters of Critical Role, which means I'm also getting a lot of cross stitching done.

Last night I watched Unspoken and Shutter. Both horror movies and both very forgettable IMHO.

I've finally finished copying all my media to my new external hard drive. Plex even played nice when I assigned the new folders and remember what I've seen and I haven't seen.

Tomorrow I'm going to see the new Scream movie, I'm looking forward to it. I've really fallen in love with going to the cinema again, but not much has been shown lately that I'm interested in.

I'm waiting for the next episode of Picard to come out...

Meanwhile, I started Netflix's Russian Doll. I'm not sure where they can go with this one, but it's a fun ride so far. (Someone caught in a time loop, where they reset to a certain time whenever they die.)

I've been continuing with Critical Role, I'm at episode 7 of the first campaign now, only 109 to go to finish the first campaign. Mind you, I'm getting a lot of cross stitching done at the moment.

I also started Three Pines, finally. I'm loving it. It's really a shame that there won't be a second season.

I'm not sure what to watch next, I'm currently leaning towards Station Eleven. Although I might watch some movies this weekend instead of series.

Last Saturday I watched Tar (Cate Blanchette as a classical music conductor). I hated it, especially the first half hour. As a musician I thought it was pretentious and contrived. There was a key scene early on where she taught a conducting class at Juilliard. The student hated Bach and thought he was misogynist because his wife gave birth to so many children. He jiggled his leg incessantly, and Tar put her hand on his leg to stop it. So much to cringe about both of these characters. I did get caught up once the plot got going later on, but it was not worth my time. It was long (2 hrs. 39 min., I think). I was glad it didn't win any Oscars, but why was it nominated.

Wednesday I watched Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022) on Amazon Prime. Earlier this week I watched Love Sarah, (2020) also on Prime, about 3 women in Notting Hill starting a bakery. Both of these movies were light and a relief from three Oscar-nominated movies I'd seen this month. (All Quiet . . ., Elvis and Tar.)

It's a cute little show, most of it made so by that very tall assistant!

I struggled to watch the end of Carnivale Row, but man, what a disappointment S.2 ended up being. Total loss, and by the end, I was rooting for all--all--the protagonists to die. Literally. hated them all.

We've given up on Perry Mason (new) S2. I wasn't that wild about S1, which I thought was abysmally dismal and grim and not at all like the books (or the show, for that matter), didn't honor ESG's work at all. It also had zero emotional payoff at the end.

S2 is just...worse, in some ways. Again, it's hard to like ANY of the characters (except Paul Drake, possibly). And both Drake and Mason, who were (physically) big men in the novels (and the show) are certainly not in this show. They're both on the decidedly smaller side. I won't get into all the other "different than the book" stuff; we are all accustomed to that sort of thing from Hollyweird. But once again, it's all just too trope-y, and I can't like Mason, not wild about Della...Burger is okay but I mean, why watch?

I even tried to watch it pretending that it wasn't PM that it was some show called Joe Smith, but then it was even less likeable. LOL.

Finished S4 of You on Netflix - which I found disappointing - had some great British actors but all the characters were completely loathsome - and the ending quite flat - obviously setting up for S5

Although I can barely remember the original TV series and have never read any of the Perry Mason books I agree with your opinion of the new series.

The first series was okay to have on when cross stitching, but I found it very bleak and depressing. The second season started the same. I didn't even watch the second episode. I had planned to, but forgot about it and after I just didn't feel like watching it anyways.

I'm still watching Critical Role and with about 300 episodes to go I have a while to go. I also watched three episodes of the documentary series about Michel Fourniret/Monique Olivier. I can't remember Fourniret's arrest, but I do vaguely remember Olivier; how people felt a certain level of sympathy for her at first, until she confessed to being an accomplice to her husband.

Yes, the young'uns on IMDB, etc. keep calling it NOIR but I don't think that they know the meaning of that word....lol. Noir is one thing. Abnormally depressing--patently on purpose--is something else altogether.

I have only seen the first episode of Perry Mason on HBO (S2) and haven't even thought to look at the next two.

It's called Monique Olivier: Accessory to Evil and it's on Netflix.

I thought it was strange that I didn't remember much of this case, since these things always interested me. I can vividly remember the Marc Dutroux case. But looking at when Olivier and Fourniret were arrested I realized it was during a summer I worked a lot and was so tired after work that I apparently didn't have the energy to follow the news much.
