After converting to html to epub, file won't open.
As a new Sigil user, I tried converting an HTML file to ePub. After saving it in Sigil, I tried to open it with Cool Reader (PC version), and got an error "Error while opening document".
How can I determine what the problem is and correct it? For what it's worth, I tried clicking the Validate button. It comes up with a single issue: OEBPS/Test/logo.jpg This resource is reachable but not present in the OPF <manifest>. |

Sigil puts images in: ../Images/ so if there is a logo.jpg, S&R Text/logo.jpg to Images/logo.jpg, otherwise: Delete those references (<img... </img> ) |

However, the file still won't open anywhere else. What else could be wrong? |

Many readers will not open a huge segment (260K compressed/section is a good number to stay under). If your epub file is over 300K, you need to do 1 or more 'Sigil splits' (usually before Chapter starts). If you use Firefox, get the EPBREADER plugin (down 1 forum ) |

Thanks, I didn't know that about the size requirements. By Sigil Splits, do you mean chapter breaks or something else? I saw something about SGF breaks as well... |

That was it! Once I did that, the file was openable. Thanks!
One remaining problem, however, is that the cover image - which shows up fine in Sigil, doesn't show up when viewing the file through a reader. I made sure to flag it as the cover in Sigil, but that doesn't seem to matter. Any ideas what I'm missing? |

Are both the cover image and the 'page' with the cover flagged?

The image was, I just flagged the page. It made no difference.
I deleted and re-inserted the image, still no go. |

If it makes any difference, I'll mention that since this started as a single HTML file, which I added chapter breaks to - the code for the cover page contains all of the CSS code that was originally there and intended for the whole document.

If you had first converted with Calibre, then do the fine tune with Sigil, most of the work would have been done for you. |

Good to know. But that's not likely to cause the issue with the cover, is it?

You might want to check to make sure you don't have multiple copies of the same image as well. I had to adjust the size of an image not long ago (I scaled it in GIMP) and even though I'd cut it from the page it was inserted into the copies I'd cut still remained in the image folder which made the file grow in size quite a bit (27 mb).
