does it have a webrowser?
I am wondering if the kobo has a webrowser that can access more than just the kobo bookstore (I.E. my local library).

it has an experimental browser, and while you can reach the library, you couldn't download books from it (you still need ADE for that).

does noone ever bother to use the search function any longer? ...and a Kobo employee posted that it would eventually support download of supported "formats"... |

WOW.. I just pried the Touch from Sooty's hands, fired up the Calibre server and tried browsing to it. Downloading a book as I speak (albeit it does seem slow).
Oh well.. spoke to soon.... the download failed timeout of some type. Time to try again. Edit: WOOT.. Second time worked like a dream! Last edited by PeterT; 06-22-2011 at 06:33 PM. |

Indeed it works very well. Fire up the Calibre server set to port 443 in the Settings, use the web browser on the Kobo Touch to navigate to the IP address of your computer with port number :443 appended, and you will see your Calibre library listed. Tap a book, confirm the Download? popup, wait for it to complete, go back to the Kobo home screen, and there it is! |

Lol. I used port 8080 (and made sure to save that site as a favorite on her browser... Shhh; don't tell Sooty )

Does the Kobo Touch browser accept port :8080 on the address? I've found that it won't accept most custom port numbers. Does anyone have a complete list of the port numbers it will accept?

I guess then that 8080 is one of the port numbers that the Kobo Touch browser accepts, which is good because it's the most common "http alternative" port number, used by default by the Calibre server, and allowed by most ISPs.
So far we have these port numbers allowed: 80 - standard http 443 - secure http 8080 - alternative http |
