Discontinued

According to this Reddit thread, the Libra 2 is discontinued.

https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/commen...n_discontinued

So if anyone wants a Libra 2 and can find one, buy it now.

Since there exist both Clara Colour and Clara BW, one may guess that a Libra BW using the new Carta 1300 in the future pipeline to add to the Libra Colour. Perhaps Kobo is holding back so not to compete with the sales of the Libra Colour? With the Clara line, the competition may not be of an issue because of the lower price point so both models are released at the same time.

Just a guess...

I hope you are correct and that there will be a Libra BW.

It would seem crazy to have no quality 7″ Kobo. The Libra Colour is inferior for regular novels.

Discontinued already? It was only released 2 years ago.
That was a quick run line.

I won't believe it until Bad eReader sees this thread and copies the original Reddit post into an article. Only then will we have reliable confirmation that the Libra 2 is discontinued!

When I look at Kobo Canada's web site, the Libra 2 is no longer in the list of ereaders. So long N418, we hardly knew ye.

There is also no more Nia. I think not having a B&W 7" screen is a big mistake.

Maybe this is a mistake by Kobo staff and it's not discontinued and just out of stock because they've been busy getting stock of the new models and will soon get the Libra 2 back in stock.

Not in my opinion. And I also have a Libra 2 and Sage for comparison.

So if anyone wants a Libra 2 and can find one, buy it now.
It is in stock again on Amazon USA, someone on Reddit mentioned it today, but supposedly at $10 more than manufacturer suggested retail. Only the black color though.

To me it seems silly for Kobo to discontinue it until there is another BW model to fill the slot, for those who don't want color, but Kobo seems to feel otherwise.

Up until recently, if I clicked on "all e-readers" on the Kobo site, Libra 2 was listed but out-of-stock. Now, it's not listed.

If someone is desperate to get a Libra 2, I'd do it before remaining stock disappears.

If you aren't desperate, then the Sage is a wonderful device. I absolutely love mine. Text looks like they printed the ink right on the screen!

Why in the world would they discontinue (what appeared to be) their most popular reader? Do they think people are really that interested in the Colour version?

That's Blue Proton, who seem to now be Kobo's unofficial "official" dealer in the United States. Now that Libra 2 has been discontinued, they'll probably jump the price more.

If you go to Blue Proton this is the first screen you'll see (attached).

Blue Proton has been selling Kobo products on Amazon for years, so it's not a new development by any means. I got my Libra 2 from Blue Proton in 2022. The price bump is interesting. If the Libra 2 had been discontinued, you'd expect a price drop to expedite the process of clearing old stock, not a price bump.

My guess is that because the libra colour uses a different body mold it's not worth it to keep both lines in production. with any luck they'll start doing runs of a libra bw to live alongside the clara models, but using the new case mold from the colour.

The new development is that Walmart used to sell and ship Kobos on their own, as did Amazon (off and on) — plus Amazon had other sellers for Kobos. Now both Walmart and Amazon appear to only sell new Kobos via Blue Proton. And there's no longer any Prime delivery (or "shipped by") at Amazon, or two day delivery at Walmart. It's like Blue Proton has an exclusive deal with Kobo now in the United States — and they take care of shipments from their own warehouse.
