Just wanted to give people a heads up on the kickoff to the new club with nominations starting on January 1, 2018, for discussion starting February 15, which will be the pattern in subsequent months. A new mission statement and general rules are in the pipeline, but here's the slate of themes for the first three months now, so you can start thinking about nominations. In subsequent months, there will be general input.

January 1 - A Rainbow of Reading: books with color-full associations.

February 1 - The Book Came First: books adapted to screen.

March 1 - It's All Relative: time-ly books.

The idea for January and March is books somehow related to color and time, respectively; lateral thinking is fine, just so you can justify it. February is self-explanatory; no novelizations of screenplays, tie-ins to a screen franchise etc.

Have fun with this. Any questions, just ask!

I 've already got a nomination for February 1st.

. One of my all time favourite Masterpiece Theater mini-series, though it could go in March's nomination too.

Ah, think of the fun trying to work it out, though. I've already told you where it was shown (in the US), and that it fits March as well. And that it's a mini-series, not a single program or series (such as Morse)

I love the themes. They are so much more fun than genre. I've had a good time finding possible nominations, noting both cost and length.

I really like The New Leaf as a name for the bookclub

With digital references in the book club name, like the Magic Book suggestion, I'm afraid it gives the wrong initial impression to the sort of books we read.

New Leaf only works if we are reading pBooks.

So, with a theme title like that, can we nominate LGBTQA titles as well? I've got an idea for a great nomination that has probably escaped most non-Canadians, and is thus an excellent 'discovery' title, but no colour in the title. (If not, I'll wait till we have a theme it fits in, not an issue. Just asking how broadly we're interpreting this.)

Most people who participate read/listen in digital format. New Leaf doesn't work as a name for the Book Club.
