Modifying UI elements

Device: PW5, 5.14.1.1, jailbroken

I wanted to remove the obnoxious tick mark beside every book, so I edited the svg file for the same in /app/KPPMainApp/res/KPPUIChrome/Downloaded.svg and changed all colors to white.

The size of the file increased a little, and then I restarted the kindle, and nothing changed, the icon is still visible in the book list.

I then DELETED the svg file and the icon is still visible. Clearly, it's either cached or that folder isn't where it's stored.

Has anyone tried this before? How would I go about accomplishing this?

A few years ago I tried to change the depleted battery image with similar results. It was in several locations and changing each of them didn't seem to do any good.

Is it all saved in the KPPMainApp.js.hbc file? Would it be safe to use this?
