Zombie's End .... idea for book, TV show and film ?
Not a recommendation as such, but is there any sign of the by now banal, boring, repetitive, formulaic (?), plain bad, and, to me, totally inappealing, "Zombie" glut ?
The last decent thing in this genre I experienced was "Shaun of the Dead" and after a few toe-dips, and some misleading titles that found me opening a book/starting a video, decided there was more rubbish in the subject than my local refuse facility ....... Or am I missing some important sociological point ? |

I love the tv show The Walking Dead. Nice mix of human drama and zombie post apocalyptic fight stuff. Of course if you don't like the blood and guts side of Zombie stuff then it probably wont appeal.
Not much else has appealed to me lately. |

I've never been a huge fan of the while Zombie genre and this recent spate is just one of those things that come around like the slasher-mania of the 90s, the torture-porn of the 2000s and so on.
I have though found The Remaining by D J Molles an exceptional read and while it is more about Infected (think 28 days later) the feel is very much that of a zombie hollocaust. |

I can't really complain about zombie movies with George Zucco as my avatar, but I'll stick with the old voodoo variety as in White Zombie, Ghost Breakers, Voodoo Man, and I Walked with a Zombie.

As with most genres, there is the good, the bad, and the ugly.

There is a French TV series on Sundance Channel right now called "The Returned." It is about people who return from the dead, but they are not zombies (in the decaying, want to eat the living, sense of the word...). I watched the first episode and I liked it. The second episode is tonight. The atmosphere is creepy but there was only one gory scene. I understand the Walking Dead is supposed to be a great show, but I only lasted five minutes into the first episode before I had to turn it off!
There is also a book by Jason Mott called The Returned which has a similar premise (the dead come back but they don't act like zombies), but it is NOT the basis of the French tv series. The book is getting its own TV adaptation, to be called "The Resurrected." I haven't read the book myself. So I don't know if these "normal zombies" signify the end of the trend, or a new wave? eP |
