I don't see any guards. I thinks it's 100% free-form. Well, maybe 80%. Maybe to be within the guidelines you need to declare and you've met the criteria.
Then again ... maybe not. Here come the Corrupt-A-Topic Police. |

Once the atom was thought to be the smallest object in the universe. Then smaller parts were found, followed by the discovery of even smaller parts. As with the universe being infinitely large, could the universe have an infinitely smaller levels of existence?

Perhaps the "Last Person to Post Here Thread" is the rehabilitation thread in disguise. A never ending task.

I think the factors in the lack of mainsteam success of Super Audio CDs and DVD-Audio discs are: - For a majority of people CD is good enough. Considering that we've gone to lower sound quality via compressed audio formats like MP3 (not bad audio if encoded at a high-enough bitrate and using a good encoder, but not as good as the CD standard), the better sound quality of the above formats wouldn't be needed by most listeners and that you can't easily rip them to put on your portable player would be a disincentive for both formats. - Per this article, http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html, a higher sampling rate and greater bitdepth than the CD standard (44.1kHz/16bit) would result in worse sound than the CD standard while resulting increased file sizes. Based on what I've learned via researching the internet, it seems that the main problem with CD sound quality isn't the CD format itself but the mastering of the recording. No matter the format, if the mastering is bad the resulting recording will sound bad. Unfortunately, many CD mastering practices have resulted is CDs that don't sound as good as they should. One instance of this is The Loudness War, where the recording is mastered to be uniformly loud throughout the song, which kills the dynamic range of the music. On YouTube there are several videos concerning The Loudness War and how it's made CDs sound worse. The following video involving a song I know well ("Soldiers" by ABBA) gives an illustration of how The Loudness War affects CD sound quality: Now, off to another topic! |
