There should be then no leading increase for descenders as is the problem with using fonts.

Linework should be indistinguishable from a real font, unlike a bitmap.

I have used small images of Chinese characters, for instance, in text:

The character scales with the body text. Obviously use a multiple for a drop cap.

In ePub2 looks OK in Sigil and Calibre. Works when exported to AZW3. Attached Kindle PW3 screens at min and max fontsize. And the character image itself.

Don't know if it works in KF7.
