Adding my two cents.
I haven't sent any books lately but I do have calibre creating and auto emailing several news feeds every day (3 every day, 5 on Thursdays), all in epub format. News feeds will show "calibre" as the author. The last day these news feeds arrived on my kindle and in the cloud with "calibre" as author (8n the author field) was Sept 21. Starting Sept 22 they all arrived at the destination with author "unknown". But they do not have "calibre" anywhere in the title. The title only has the proper title info. In calibre itself, "calibre" is in the author column, as it should be. I'm assuming, as others have, that this is another Amazon screwup. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |

I have the exact same issue. Gibberish for the title and "unknown" for the author. Days ago when I first tried sending epub this issue did not exist.

What's interesting is that when you send an email from Calibre, the subject of the email is that gibberish line. I've configured Calibre to use the word CONVERT as my subject; however, Calibre sends the gibberish as the subject instead. (A bug in the latest Calibre, perhaps?)
Amazon seems to interpret that gibberish subject as the title of the book. It's all very weird. |

Indeed. I find only a few days ago did calibre start sending emails with random string subjects. Most likely a calibre bug.

Looks like it was initially because of some weird limitations of PocketBook that Kovid started using random strings for the email subject and content. This was supposed to be fine with send-to-kindle because the title and author would still be in the metadata, but somehow the metadata is not parsed anymore. |

How does one implement this fix?

It doesn't set the subject though. Just keeps the attachment name.

I've reported this to Amazon - or at least, the chat person said it was above their level & they have passed into the black hole that is their technical team. Might be worth multiple people reporting the title field bug - unless anyone has a more direct route into the specialist team?

Yeah, I think I'll wait. There's no point in fixing this in Calibre while it's still broken on the Amazon side.

Thanks for the thread! As it turns out to be a common issue, it will surely be fixed very soon.

I just updated to Calibre 6.5 and when I send docs via email to my Kindle I now get gibberish for the title and author unknown. Before the update I was getting the title followed by a dash and then the authors name on the same line with unknown where the authors name should be. Someone needs to sort it out asap.
