OK. I identified 2 issues with A10:
1. I have to wiggle the jack of the headphone to get the sound. Even that does not work with some headphones.
2. If I transfer large files from the PC to A10 using USB cable, the connection is frequently severed in the middle.

Is this a general problem with Android machines or specific to A10?

A wireless workaround is provided by the free app "software data cable" & filezilla combination.

Here is another, probably software problem.
I would like to replace the default tts engine with a better one
(Pocketbook a10 comes with 4 females - Italian, French, British, German)

Voice input & output ---> Text-to-speech settings ----> Engine is missing here!! (you can change the speech rate or language only)

SVOX is installed, but I cannot make it work without the opportunity to change the default engine. How can I change the default TTS?

I have a dead battery after 17 days of usage.

I turned the machine off at around 40%, tried to turn it back an hour later.
Nothing. Connected to electricity. Battery at 0%, and does not want to charge,
although it is connected to the electricity in the wall.

sometimes things wont start to charge if they are out of battery power unless you first attempt to boot them. a couple of eink readers have been that way, irex dr800 comes to mind. try holding the power button down for a few secs( or longer) while its plugged in

I managed to resurrect the battery. On the other hand, the otherwise very helpful Pocketbook representative told me on the phone that the battery is excluded from the 2-year warranty.

only problem I see is the price. With a bunch of others out there at 269 with the same or better specs.................

The 2.3.7 update for Pocketbook A10 is out since Jan 19, 2012.

I had to erase/reinstall every single app after the update to make the
system stable.

The battery discharge time seems to be better after the update.

It does not solve two problems.
1.
.pbi files for US English on the pocketbook website cannot be installed.
Other voices, SVOX for instance cannot be made to work either.
2.
The USB connection between my PCs and Pocketbook A10 is frequently
broken up during file transfer. I have to use Wifi connection instead.

Mantano, Aldiko [ + - + -]
EbookDroid, Nook PDF, Orion [+ + - -]
Moon [ - - + -]
FB, Cool* [- - + +]

Coolreader makes the system collapse if you try to read .chm files.
Try HYReader instead.
iSilo reads .pdb books.

The following apps read only .pdf files out of the 4 formats mentioned:

Adobe, Amazon, ezPDF, Perfect, Repligo, qPDF, OfficeSuit*.

A bit pricey considering the specs. Guess I'll wait. Lenovo k1 is less and offers more.
