Another American country house / locked room murder case by Carolyn Wells, who rather specialised in this field. This is the syndicated serial edition, rather than the published hardback novel edition, and is probably somewhat condensed, as it is 57,000 words while her books tended to around 70,000 words.

A beautiful actress visits a country house; jealousies flare; and shortly after she is engaged to the head of the house, and he has publicly torn up his will, her fiance is found dead. Fleming Stone is called in.
