Free Novel by Booker-nominated Author Patricia le Roy

Patricia le Roy was nominated for the Booker Prize in 1998 with Angels of Russia, a very fine novel--the first electronically published book ever nominated for the award, in fact, as her publisher was Online Originals.

Her newest novel, The Judas Tree, is available as a free download from her website. I'm not sure how long this will last, so grab it now. I haven't read it yet, but I plan to soon.

If one can live with page numbers present, calibre translates this into a mobi format very nicely.

No chapter headings, though, but very readable.

Don
Also, Mobipocket Creator did a great job extracting the pdf for me - sans page numbers, and the resulting html has chapter headings tagged h2, so I created a very workable TOC. Only glitch is that chapter headings with apostrophes lost them, but I can live with that. (If it bugs me too much I'll ship the html to Sigil and fix it.)

PDFs can be such testy critters. Sometimes calibre works better, sometimes Mobipocket Creator works better, sometimes nothing short of text extraction and heavy editing will work. Fortunately, this particular one was pretty manageable.

I'll have to give the .mobi conversion a try. Last time I converted a PDF, I just put up with the page numbers, which really isn't that difficult or annoying.
