I'm a huge fan of Peter Tremayne's Sister Fidelma historical series, but the vast majority of his books are insanely priced in the US at $12.99, even the decades old backlist. And they almost never go on sale.

In the UK, it's a different story, with most of the books at £3.99 and only a few, mostly recent, at £4.99 or up. So it's not that much of a sale when a couple of them drop to £2.99, but WTH...here you go...

If you waited almost seven years, you're happy now, because the P. D. James’s Cordelia Gray Mysteries: An Unsuitable Job for a Woman and The Skull Beneath the Skin omnibus is now on sale for $1.99 in the US, and it's couponable at Kobo...

The Kindle US link is still good, and here's an updated Kobo US link: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/an-...neath-the-skin

Oh, and it’s probably worth noting that, per SYKM. both books were finalists for the Gold Dagger Award, and the first book was also a finalist for the Edgar Award for Best Mystery.

Also like the Jance set, it has stair-stepped its way down to $6.99 at Kindle and Kobo US, which is a bit pricey IMO at $3.50 each for really old backlist, but tolerable if you need both titles. And the titles are $11.99 and $9.99 individually right now, so this is quite a savings over those truly outrageous prices for backlist.

The Limehouse Text is the third in the Barker and Llewelyn series by Will Thomas. It's $2.99 right now in the US, and it's discountable at Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NY12FK
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-limehouse-text-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
In The Limehouse Text, Barker and Llewelyn discover a pawn ticket among the effects of Barker's late assistant, leading them to London's Chinese district, Limehouse. There they retrieve an innocent-looking book that proves to be a rare and secret text stolen from a Nanking monastery. When they take it to Ho, Barker's favorite restaurateur, for inspection, they discover that it contains lethal martial arts techniques forbidden to the West. With the political situation between the British Empire and Imperial China already precarious, the duo must safeguard the text from a snarl of suspects with conflicting interests -- and track down a killer intent upon gaining the secret knowledge.

Prowling through an underworld of opium dens, back-room blood sports, and sailors' penny hangs while avoiding the wrath of the district's powerful warlord, Mr. K'ing, Barker and Llewelyn take readers on a perilous tour through the mean streets of turn-of-the-century London.

The Enchanters by James Ellroy is $3 at Amazon, B&N and Kobo US.

Quote:
AN NPR BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR • James Ellroy—Demon Dog of American Letters—goes straight to the tragic heart of 1962 Hollywood with a wild riff on the Marilyn Monroe death myth in an astonishing, behind-the-headlines crime epic.

Los Angeles, August 4, 1962. The city broils through a midsummer heat wave. Marilyn Monroe ODs. A B-movie starlet is kidnapped. The overhyped LAPD overreacts. Chief Bill Parker’s looking for some getback. The Monroe deal looks like a moneymaker. He calls in Freddy Otash.

The freewheeling Freddy O: tainted ex-cop, defrocked private eye, dope fiend, and freelance extortionist. A man who lives by the maxim “Opportunity is love.” Freddy gets to work. He dimly perceives Marilyn Monroe’s death and the kidnapped starlet to be a poisonous riddle that only he has the guts and the brains to untangle. We are with him as he tears through all those who block his path to the truth. We are with him as he penetrates the faux-sunshine of Jack and Bobby Kennedy and the shuck of Camelot. We are with him as he falters, and grasps for love beyond opportunity. We are with him as he tracks Marilyn Monroe’s horrific last charade through a nightmare L.A. that he served to create — and as he confronts his complicity and his own raging madness.

It’s the Summer of ’62, baby. Freddy O’s got a hot date with history. The savage Sixties are ready to pop. It’s just a shot away.

The Enchanters is a transcendent work of American popular fiction. It is James Ellroy at his most crazed, brilliant, provocative, profanely hilarious, and stop-your-heart tender. It is a luminous psychological drama and an unparalleled thrill ride. It is, resoundingly, the great American crime novel.

Alex Cross Must Die is the most recent (2023) in James Patterson's Alex Cross series. It's £1.99 in the UK right now.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BZ3NXCJG
Kobo UK: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/alex-cross-must-die-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
TWO KILLERS. TWO MOTIVES. A DEADLY RACE AGAINST TIME.

When an American Airlines plane explodes in the sky, detectives Alex Cross and John Sampson are first on the scene. They don't hear the gunfire. At first.

It soon becomes clear that the plane was taken down by a rare, stolen machine gun. The list of people who could operate the weapon is short. And time runs even shorter.

But this isn't the only case the pair must solve. They're also tracking a serial killer who's ambushing young men in what the media are calling the 'Dead Hours' murders.

With two killers and two different motives, Cross and Sampson are in a deadly race against time . . .

The Tattoo Murder Case by Akimitsu Takagi is $2.51 at Amazon, $3 at B&N and Kobo US, which is kinda weird.

Quote:
Kinue Nomura survived World War II only to be murdered in Tokyo, her severed limbs discovered in a room locked from the inside. Gone is the part of her that bore one of the most beautiful full-body tattoos ever rendered. Kenzo Matsushita, a young doctor who was first to discover the crime scene, feels compelled to assist his detective brother, who is in charge of the case. But Kenzo has a secret: he was Kinue’s lover, and soon his involvement in the investigation becomes as twisted and complex as the writhing snakes that once adorned Kinue’s torso.

The Tattoo Murder Case was originally published in 1948; this is the first English translation.
