If it was a bit colder outside -- especially if it had been colder for a week or so -- this would be a pretty spectacular blizzard right now. The overall pattern is a pretty classic coastal Nor'easter. Yesterday's heavy rain changed over to a "wintry mix" early this morning but the temperature is still one or two degrees above freezing, so we have a layer of sleet on the grass and the roads are slick but no accumulating snow or ice.

I know it's a cliche, but the wind in the trees really does sound like a freight train outside. The winds have been steady in the 20 to 30 mph range, with much stronger gusts to 50 mph or so. Again, if it was colder and ice was accumulating in the branches we'd have bigger problems. (But I did make a point of charging my phone up last night, just in case.)

My knees have really been bothering me since Wednesday. I may have underestimated the degree that the weather was playing in that.

Despite temperatures were higher today, -2C, than the last couple of days it felt very cold due to hard wind. But temperatures are going to rise, but first tonight snow. For Tuesday temperatures of 10C are predicted, a huge rise considering the last couple of days it was 15C colder and it felt like it was between -15C and -20C.

Winds were howling all day ... 20-30 mph with higher gusts. Shook the house at times ... frightened the cats.

The UK is being affected by a very cold front coming from Siberia. The roads are impassable for heavy snow and everything has ground to a halt. Even my cats don't want to go out! The temperature is about -10C, which is very cold for Britain, we're just not used to it or geared up for it, so don't have the infrastructure of countries like Canada which are used to very cold weather. I'm dreading my next heating bill!

Had to drive someone to a doctor's appointment this morning. Encountered a few roads that were still closed due to fallen trees, downed power lines, etc. We also found more than one intersection with traffic lights that had no power.

It's a beautiful day today, though, so repairs should move along quickly. Temperatures are in the 40's, there's bright sun, and the breeze is fairly gentle.

Really? It is still gusting a bit down here on the Hill. We had so many branches and trees down here yesterday. Franklin Street was blocked for a tree that hit a power line (which then hit a car).
