Surreal experience: temps climbed into the upper 60's F today .... I stood on my driveway in shirt sleeves watching my neighbor across the street chipping away at her driveway -- still completely covered with a solid sheet of ice ....
[her house completely shadows the driveway]

It's currently 37° F, but the skies are sunny with a few clouds and the expected temp today is 60. It's been pretty mild the last few days. Light rain is on tap for tomorrow.

My neighbor tells me she will never buy a house unless it has a south facing driveway. Living up here in the north, that's a pretty good plan. I hadn't thought of it before -- but I do notice the difference when I walk the dog around the block, and find snow and ice remaining on the northern side of the block.

Our house is aligned so that the sloped driveway gets direct sun from about 10AM on. Even on days when the sun is at its weakest, late December through mid-January, the sun makes a difference.In February and March it makes a big difference.

The temps today got to the 30s (F) and it was mostly sunny. First time in a while I was able to sit out on the deck with my tea and read. Tomorrow and Friday should be much the same.

Winter is back. The high temp for the day didn't quite make it to the freezing point -- it was 31º -- but the sun was bright and is getting stronger.

There wasn't a cloud in the sky. I was able to see the very beginning of this morning's eclipse with the moon just above the horizon at 7:05 AM, but by 7:10 the sky was too bright to see the moon at all.
