Yes, I've seen that too, and I agree with you.

I don't use ratings, and I thought I set metadata download to NOT download ratings in Calibre, but I noticed when I unhid the column many of the books are already rated.

Oh well. Hid the column again.

I've noticed that too and agree that it is off putting. The other thing I've observed is having 8 billion tags pre-filled. I'm a minimal tagger so this ends up being more annoying to me than the rating, which is only one thing to delete.

Probably some popular but ill-conceived marketing advice.

If the same people who are maintaining the Avon site are maintaining Harlequin this would explain the mess. Last I checked the p was still missing from every book description on Avon romance site. I never got a reply back from notifying them.

I notice broken links on Harlequin missing covers. They need to hire someone who cares about Harlequin's image.

It has always seemed strange to me that you can often get better, more accurate, more in depth & complete information from all kinds of sites that aren't the publisher (or author) site. That especially goes for the bigger pubs.

It looks like they finally did fix the missing p issue. However several books are missing their synopsis. The new look is more tablet friendly. Let's hope they get up to speed on Harlequin next.

Let's hope. So far every time Harlequin has redone their website many changes have been for the worse (IMO).

I purchased a HarperCollins eBook from Harlequin over the weekend. Surprised me! The book was Return of the Warrior by Kinley MacGregor.

Link to HarperCollins books at Harlequin.

I don't see an actual link on the site - I made this one (to give more sort options).

All 3 books in 'The True' series by Liora Blake are on sale, $.99 bk 1, $1.99 bk 2 and $2.99 bk 3.

True North: What happens when a bad-boy celebrity rocker meets a small-town bestselling novelist? Find out in this first book in the sizzling new True series by Liora Blake!

True Devotion: Find out if rock sensation Simon can break through tough-girl Devon’s steely exterior—if he can keep his head on straight, that is—in this second sizzling romance in the True series!

True Divide: Spitfire Lacey Mosely feels stuck in a life she didn’t necessarily want. But will she find a happy ending with the man who broke her heart? Liora Blake concludes her witty and poignant True series with this spirited romance.

Both ratings and tags are unchecked but they both manage to sneak through. Ratings I don't care about, tags I use the remove all option when editing bulk metadata.

I want to read romance with more plot than sex so most newer romances are out. I thought about starting that suspense series by Anne Stuart we will have to see. I guess I want to read smarter romances with good solid writing. I also think I might try the Carla Neggers books I bought.
Way around autospell/correct type the name then put a period or a comma.

I have every box unchecked. I am very strict about what tags I use as well, but used to have to delete/change those. The ratings field is usually left blank when I load a new book.

I think what happened is that the author used Calibre to create the epub version of the book. Rating is one of the fields that Calibre stores metadata for when you do a conversion. And she so helpfully decided her book was great Or whomever she hired to help with formatting did so. I fixed the coding so that the text didn't not appear immediately below the words "chapter x" with no space between them and noticed some of the css had calibre in it.

Since getting my Kobo I don't even mess with metadata anymore. This could be because 95% of the time I do not have access to it because hubby is hogging the computer.

I have a version of Calibre on my laptop just for fixing books that I'm reading. My library is on the desktop and backed up to Dropbox once a month.
