4. Closed and re-opened Calibre

Calibre did not recognize the device. So, I disconnected the device, went back to Preferences->Plugins->...and disabled "Kobo Reader Device Interface" as well. Closed and Opened Calibre. Reconnected GloHD - still not recognized.

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?
What version of calibre are you running? If you have a version of calibre that supports the Glo HD, the extended driver should be working. It extends the main KoboTouch driver and all the device recognition code is done in main driver. The only thing I can suggest is to post a debug log from calibre. This will show what happens when the calibre is started and the device is connected. From that, I should be able to see what is happening.

To create a debug log, right click on the preferences button in calibre and select "Restart in debug mode". Calibre will start and display a message about the log. Connect the device and wait for the connect jobs to finish. If these don't run, go to the preferences and then the "Miscellaneous" page and run the device detection debug. After this or the device jobs finish, close calibre. The debug log should be displayed. Post the contents or send them to me to look at.

BTW - I also had a battery problem like the one described. Out of the blue the battery started to run down in a few days rather than a few weeks. Deleted a .mobi book that seemed oddly formatted and a couple of other non .kepub books, gave it a good overnight charge - and all seems better today.
That's interesting. I can't see how just having the book on the device could cause. But, I suppose if there is a problem with it, then closing it might not work properly. That might leave a process in the background using CPU and hence battery. If that is the cause, a power off and on should remove the process and go back to the normal battery life. Do you still have the book? I'd be interested in trying to reproduce this.

I recently noticed a black line (1px or less) at the bottom of the screen just before the bezel. It’s invisible most of the time : the kobo is hold at an angle of which the line is hidden by the bezel. But since i’ve seen it (after 1 month) i’m wondering if anybody has it too. Obviously it seems «*normal*» and not a problem apart from the fact the bezel should probably be on the line and not just beside it...

I am using Calibre 2.5. I will update right now to newest version and try again.

I have had similar problems with the kindle (k3) battery, even with books purchased from Amazon! If they cannot be indexed for some reason the device just keeps on trying and uses the CPU and battery charge. I didn't like the book in any case (LOL). I am afraid that I just deleted it. I also turned the device OFF/ON (not reset, that was my next try if still a problem). Whatever, I read a couple of hours last night and still at 100%, so back to normal :-)

Update: Yes! Thank you, that was the problem. I pressed "Send to device" and I assume it converted and sent a .kepub file? The device says "kobo epub" and Calibre just saved the original .epub version, so that sounds correct.

I had the same, if lineheight isn't set correctly you can see the top of the line that is on the next page,on the previous page.
If you set lineheight correctly it disappear.

I see what you means, but in my case it’s a full black line at the very edge of the screen, just before the bottom IR

It’s just the end of the screen, I think : a part that should be under the IR receiver - I can’t make it visible on a picture - the black of the «*screen*» mixes with the black of the IR (but there is nothing to worry, anyway)

Not really wanting to interrupt cramoisi's question (but doing it anyway, sorry) ... I'm getting exactly the problem you describe - maybe 3-4 times per book. Not exactly a show-stopper but: what do you mean by "correctly" in this context?

Trial and error with the slider,in Calibre I set lineheight at 1,2 em,that works most of the time fine.
But it is font dependant, I use Malabar, or the Bookerly font (special for ebooks made by Kindle, I think it is copyrighted so can't give u a download link).

Someone's reporting the black line at the bottom on the PW3.

Any patches installed to the Kobo f/w?

Is this an ePub or kepub book?

Still on the last FW version (3.15.0) if that helps. No patches or other jiggery-pokery. Using the Extended Driver in Calibre to create on-the-fly kepubs.

Thanks, Nick. I thought that might be the case. It's not a huge problem after all, cosmetic more than anything else.

Ha! It's always nice to try new fonts - The feature is there, be a shame not to give 'em a go. Still always end up back with Amasis though .

I only use epubs, and I never see the broken up text between lines. But the few times I've tried a kepub, the very bottom line is always partial text fragments of the top line of the next page, and no matter what line height or text size I try, it's always there for me. Just another thing I don't like about kepubs.

LexiaDaMa has always been my favorite, but I found one I like even a bit better, Roboto Slab. I love being able to change fonts to get the best reading experience for my crappy eyes.

I love the Amasis, but Malabar is great to,but like Ripplinger, it is all personal taste.
But when Kindle announces that they had make the font special for e-readers with all kinds of benefits, I had to try it.
The Bookerly isn't bad and can be added to the font directory in the root of the Kobo, if it isn't there you can create it yourself.
I use kepubs because the ghosting for some reason doesn't look that worse on it, and when you set the lineheight ok,there will be no lines..
