Finally got around to reading this one, and while it is entertaining (most important quality of any book I read) there is one thing that drives me nuts and that makes me refuse to read the sequel or any other book by this author.

According to the story, the secondary character that becomes the main character in the next book, is Swedish. And it is blindingly obvious that the author isn't.

I saw one single inflection/comment in Swedish by the "Swedish" character that wasn't misspelled. One. In a few cases the Swedish words were used incorrectly as well - different cultures use different kinds of profanities, and what is a swear word in English is not necessarily nearly as bad in, for example, Swedish.

So to Jillian David and all other authors out there:

If you don't know a language, or know someone who does, then don't create a character who speaks it. Because for those of us who grew up speaking it, your ignorant mistakes completely ruin everything that was enjoyable about the rest of the book. It's both grating and little bit insulting when it's obvious that no one involved in the process of writing, proof reading, and publishing a book, could be bothered to do something as simple as compare the author's spelling against Google Translate, to make sure she got it right.

I'll spare you my long-winded rant about how extremely rare it is that someone who is fluent in more than one language jumps between them in mid-sentence, especially when they know the person they are speaking to only understands only one of those languages.

This is why it needs to be possible to give out negative points/stars on book review sites.

Well darn... I am waiting for another Host book. I didn't care for Twilight, but LOVED The Host.

eta but since I added them to my goodreads wish list in 2010, I guess the two Host books are never coming out. Boo!

It took me awhile to get into it, but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it also. I would've liked a continuation of that series and had no idea there was even any talk of it.

I don't remember how I got that link ^^^ but it's been taken down. When I look at it in my wishlist it shows the book as removed and was written by Stephenie Cullen so please ignore that. I'm not sure how I got it in the first place but apologize for posting something incorrect.

I like Twilight, but I'm not very fond of the idea of re-releasing the series. How about just give us a new book or novella? Or a spin-off?

That said, I love The Host as well. Love me some Ian and Wanda! I would love to see a sequel or two coming out, too. Let's just hope that Meyer is a slow writer instead of not writing at all.
