I pulled the PIN and purchased one as well.
Amazon is going to collect Sales Tax in Illinois starting in Feb so I used that as an excuse to purchase now! Ps. I bought from Amazon warehouse deals a used Amazon origami case for $36.00 and change! Last edited by zebradude; 01-26-2015 at 06:07 PM. |

After debating between the Paperwhite 2 and the Voyage, I finally decided to bite the bullet and spend the extra cash on the Voyage.
I was aware of the uneven screen tone issue but the seller was kind enough to let me check on the product before purchasing it. Under sunlight, the uneven tone didn't show up, however once I'm in my dim living room, the unevenness becomes apparent. It doesn't bother me after a while as my eyes just adjust to the light and just focused on the text on screen, but I definitely could see how this could pose as a problem for some. Other than that, I love the button function on this thing and how light the device is! Can't comment much on the battery life now as I literally just got it 20 minutes ago, but I do hope that it'll last at least 2 weeks with constant reading. Living in Asia makes the Kindle much more expensive than the normal retail price in US but I'm definitely glad that I spent the extra cash to get the Voyage. ![]() |

well I received my voyage yesterday and I am in LOVE with this little guy! The build quality is wonderful! and my screen is evenly lit and super crisp. I picked up the 3G model as I like to use whispernet a lot.
I love being able to purchase a book on the fly when I hear about it before I forget! |

Well I finally broke down. I got my Voyage on Friday. I was really waiting for it to be in stock so I didn't have to wait after ordering and to save up more points from my CC.
As a little info, I have a K1, KK and I got the PW1 in 2012. I was not happy with the PW. I had 2 replacements and finally kept one but it has that mottled screen with large dark smudges and a milky kind of screen so the letters kind of swim in it. Hard to explain. It just wasn't pleasant to read on most of the time other than bright light. I settled, I admit. I never seen the PW2 so can't speak to how the screen would be different from the one I got. I also understand there were some software differences in the models. I am super happy with the Voyage. First to the screen as that was of course the first thing I looked at considering my experience with the PW1. Since it was dreary inside I had to get through the tutorial first. They crank up the light initially I think at 22 and its way to bright at that. On that high light I could see a slight brighter bottom and a slight darker top. Very very slight though and wasn't noticeable anymore once I turned the light to usable levels. Once in a while when I really try to look I might see something but then its gone. With all the different light sources that come at the screen, its really hard to determine. I have no more smudges on the bottom and no more diagonal light beams like I had on my PW. It looks really even to me. The screen is just so clear and the font is so crisp. Even after 6 page changes when my PW would have the letters fall apart after like 2-3 pages, I see no deterioration on my Voyage at all. It doesn't have all those artifacts and odd font things my PW has. Like some parts of the text would be darker than others. It only stayed the same mostly on the fresh refresh. Its so much faster then my PW. My PW was almost useless when it came to the collections after that update it got. I have over 30 collections and lots of books so it just took minutes to add and remove stuff from collections. I love love the page thingies. I so missed page buttons on the PW. It is so much easier on my joints and hands not to have to constantly turn into the screen to change the page. The page "buttons" work really well. I also love the better search it has where it lists the items owned, docs and store items in neat rows with covers now. My PW1 didn't have that, don't know if the PW2 has that. I also love how it deals with the collections in cloud and device now and how you can switch back and forth while even being inside one and it tells you on the bottom how many items are in the cloud collection. Again, that might have been something the PW2 already had. I have a Fintie shell case coming tomorrow as I want to take advantage of the auto on. I even optioned out of the ads, which never bothered me on the Fires or the PW. I just want the Voyage to be free of it. It is very thin, especially on the edges and it almost slipped out of my hand a couple of times. I think its because it gets thinner at the edges and I have some issues with my hands so gripping is a bit harder. The case should solve that. I'll see if I'll always use it or take it out again. I love the lightness of the Voyage. For me the finally got it right. Its got everything I wanted in a lighted reader. ![]() |

The page "buttons" work really well.
Not on mine though. I have over 30 collections and lots of books so it just took minutes to add and remove stuff from collections. But not if you use Calibre rather than the clould to categorise your collections. The case should solve that. I'll see if I'll always use it or take it out again. The case will negate most of the benefits of size and weight. Yes? |

Sorry your buttons aren't working. You might want to contact Amazon for that though. I don't know yet about the weight of the cover, I'll find out tomorrow. Its much lighter than the PW, so at most it will make it the same weight as the PW, which is fine. |

Atuna,
So you do all your sorting on the Cloud then? I have not relied on that as I also use a Sony T1 and a Samsung 7.7 for ereading. With regard to the buttons I guess I probably simply prefer the ones that click on the Sony. Let me know what case you buy. I'm still looking. And tell me more about feeding Kindle books with TreasureTrooper. Tony |

So that all the read are in one collection and all the unread books are also sorted by all kinds of perimeter. But I still do all of that in Calibre also, with tags though. I am a pretty basic Calibre user so all my books are in there with lots of tags and virtual libraries and such. But I don't plug my devices in to move stuff with calibre as others do. Its like a separate thing for me. I do wish I could do all that sorting and putting stuff in collections on the website at Amazon. I think that would be much easier and it could then sync from there to all the devices. At least the initial set up with collections and stuff. Once everything is in place its ok. But for some reason not all of my collections always sync across the devices properly. I have never seen a Sony, but I do get you on the physical buttons. I ended up getting the basic kindle last year, just so I could have my buttons back. Its fine in bright light outside, but I need the light. So I was happy when they made a kindle with light and buttons. They are not quite like the basic buttons of course, but for me they are the next best thing. They work pretty well. I am just happy to have buttons back period. ![]() As to cover, I'll get mine today. I got the Fintie shell cover. I was wanting something like a top flip cover and with a hand strap on the back, but no such thing. I just want the auto on. If I don't like it I'll keep using it without or find something else. I'll see. Here is the link. You might also want to check out the accessory thread. http://www.amazon.com/Fintie-Kindle-.../dp/B00NQNI3FW The site in my signature is like a survey site. It helps me to make enough to buy books and some devices with. ![]() |

Thanks Atuna,
You mention the Nexus. I have an Android Samsung and with Calibre Companion it sorts by the tag field in Calibre. My Sony T1 also recognises that field for sorting. Ironically it is the Kindles that don't and I have to rely on catalogues in that case. I am new around here but I gather it was the PW and clouding that introduced the problem. Thanks for all the other info. Tony |
