Hi Kartu and other people working to make PRS+ possible,

I noticed that 2.0.3preview for 600 still does not support Chinese and other Eastern Asian languages.
May I know the way to support Chinese and other languages (font setting? CSS? )? If you guys need font or anything, I'm willing to help if possible... Thank you for your great efforts.

Hi Frank,

"traditionally", since Chinese font files are rather huge and didn't fit in the flash, Chinese users used /database/system/PRSPlus/prsp.sh file, to mount their own fonts. Exactly the same prsp.sh-s should also work with 600's.

As far as translation goes, the following file needs to be translated:

I spent some time to translate most entries in the xml file into simplified Chinese (see attachment). Maybe you will find that helpful.

Also, do you mind giving me a clue how to load my own Chinese font through database/system/PRSPlus/prsp.sh ? Thank you.

Seriously though, installed and up & running and working great even the read from unscanned card (something I've seriously wanted). Dead easy install even if it did involve PCs

Guys, if I ever told you I'd do something in the future, and you don't see it in Issues list, it probably means that I've forgotten about it (my bad). It would be very kind of you if you'd create new "issue" (but first go through the existing list, not to double-report) and link relevant stuff or, if for whatever reason you cannot do it, just remind me about it in this thread.

Well, exceptions are: dictionary, file manager. I never forget about them and don't need them in "issues" list (heck, but there is already one for FM).

Great job Frank, thanks for the translation, I've created "enhancement" issue #26, not to forget about it.

if you got correctly named (if you don't know what I'm talking about, first check the threads on customizing fonts please) Chineze fonts and put them into, say, /Fonts folder on internal memory, command that you need to put into prsp.sh is:

mount --bind /Data/Fonts /opt/sony/ebook/FONT

if you do a mistake in prsp.sh file and your reader freezes when booting, simply reset it and immediatelly connect it via USB. If reader is connected, prs+ stuff doesn't start.

Kartu, to create a prs installer for the Prs 505, is it necessary use the new build.xml now or it's posible to use the last it's the scripts are downloaded to the pc?

Wow your Firmware is great, I wish you could do a semilar one for the new generation of sony's ereaders, for the PRS 350/650.

Hope you'll get one of those and work a little on them.

Because more and more people to come with the new sony ereader and I think they all want to have your firmware advantages

You should use the old one. In general, you should use the one with version label corresponding to the version that you are building. In case of 505 you probably want the latest for it, 1.1.3, so it's the old build script.

Hi Kartu,

Thank you for you hints. But I still could not get my 600 to display book title etc Chinese correctly (epub files are working good so far with the css way).

What I used were three modified fonts in /DATA/fonts, with the font and file names all adapted, like tt0003m_.ttf and Swiss721 BT, etc.
(by the way, they are 3.5 MB each for tt0003m_ and tt001m_, so I wonder the possibility to fit them into the source, if power consumption is too terrible to use a large font)


I then put the prsp.sh with the "mount --bind /DATA/fonts /opt/sony/ebook/FONT" line into /database/system/PRSPlus/ , but the book titles in book list and history are still messed up...

wondering if I missed any step...

and thank you to kartu for his great work!

I successfully installed PRS+ on my 600 and here are a few feedback:
1: I tried to set Russian as sistem language but this freezed the device (is not so important for me however)
2: Menu customization, in PRS+ preferences any of the slots has no other option than default for Item
3: I tried also custom CSS and fonts, css files are in the right place, because they appear in the corresponding menu in preference, but also if one of them is selected, no epub is affected from changes.
Same for the fonts, I put them in a fonts folder in the root of internal memory and tried to modify the css in some epub to point to those fonts (I'm trying using fontin and the css posted in PRS+ wiki for now) also tied to make an external css but nothing changed when I opened epubs.

These are still work in progress functions?

Ps: custom wallpapers and file browser work very well

Frank, it's "Data" not "DATA". And you don't have to create this "data" folder, it's simply a path to internal memory, but you don't see it. Note that paths are case sensitive.

That's the case only for slots that are not configurable (first two).

CSS thing should also work, I'll recheck it on my 600.

I've revised the scripts, and i've seen the mark media there are some words with out traslations.

A part from, are you going to realese a prs for prs 505 with the news scripts created for the others (600 an 300)?

I've seen the script lang english into the core/lang there is a menu customizer, but i haven't found this script into the addons, is it created?
