Florida dodged a bullet thanks to Cuba knocking Cat 5 Irma down to Cat 3. Irma's now a Cat 2 and losing steam. There's still extensive damage, but thankfully, nothing like the forecasts called for.

There's a thunderstorm at the moment. It isn't raining hard, but the rumbles are impressive. So I've put on an old episode of Midsomer Murders (the one with Orlando Bloom and Lothlorien cottage), made myself hot chocolate and curled up in bed.

I was a teen during Hurricane Agnes, 1972. It managed to dump a ton of water as far north as Pennsylvania (further too, but that's where I was). It was impressive seeing all the water, tho it didn't negatively affect us.
It hit Mexico, FL, GA, SC, NC, went back out to the ocean and strengthened again. And came back inland to NY and even (as just an extratropical cyclone) the northwest of Great Britain. Per Wikipedia.

My youngest sister (8 years my senior) lives on the east coast of Florida. Irma hit on the west coast. Still, she came home to this.

She didn't, but everyone huddled together in a different family member's home. Can't say as I blame them, as there have been fatalities in the past among people attempting to evacuate. I don't know if that happened this time, but I do know that many of those attempting to evade Irma via evacuation instead ran straight into her arms when she decided to change course at the last minute.

Grey and drizzly. It started raining last night and the band of rain hasn't shifted much since then. Luckily, next week better weather is promised. I don't mind the lower temperature much, but all this rain is getting depressing.

Coolish, heavily overcast, occasional drizzle, and very windy today. We're getting the outer edges of Hurricane Jose, which is not too far off our shore. It's expected to degrade into a tropical storm, but it's also expected to do another of it's "loop-de-loops" and stay there through the weekend.
