You just quoted the relevant part. Rather than do as quoted to preserve the jailbreak, do the opposite of what is quoted to destroy it and immediately afterward install an Amazon update image. Even if you sell it rather than give it away. ![]() |

Thanks for reply. The way it is written ("because it wipes out a vital part of what is about to be added.") led me to believe that the reset would brick the device, due to the absence of the "vital part" that is not there... But that's ok now. Thanks. Regards. |

When the topic is adding a jail break, the jail break is considered vital to the topic under discussion. |

Is unsubscribing from special offers necessary for the jailbreak to succeed? And if yes, how much does Amazon charge for it (because it mentions a "one-time payment to unsubscribe")? Thanks!

It was said at one time that unsubscribing from special offers wasn't mandatory (PW2's had special cases or something? might be different for them) so I jailbroke a mid-summer 2016 new "basic Kindle" without removing the special offers. I don't use the jailbreak anymore (though it's still there) so I don't know if it hinders anything, in normal usage. But it didn't STOP the jailbreak.

It only prevents you from recovering from a failed attempt. So far, that has only happened with PW-3 devices. |

Hi
Way to go? I have been a year a quite happy user of Koreder. However after an install of KPVBooklet which I found unstable, I uninstalled it. It had left a lot of documents on the Kindle side that I could not erase, even if the documents were gone... Now my mistake: I thought I could only deregister and register again my Kindle to Amazon to make these empty documents disappear. Not only they stayed but Amazon politely informed me that my PW3 wifi G090 G1 version 5.7.2.1. was no longer a test machine and that I had to inform "Developer". (see screenshot which I do not translate). The effect of such a warning is that, for example, I cannot launch KUAL and instead a dialogue box pops up telling me to read this letter... What I did after that I upgraded -downgraded successfully to 5.7.4. initial bin after downloading it (735 MB) but the Amazon warning is still in place. ![]() Question I am looking for advice: should I reinitialize totally the PW3 and downgrade again to version 5.7.4. initial? Should I try directly some jailbreak even with this Amazon warning? Thanks for your help and advice. EDIT: now on my way to a successful new jailbreak, after a full reset, 5.7.4 and so on. I did not read any previous warning about NOT REGISTER. It makes you lose some hours... Last edited by roger64; 02-16-2017 at 05:16 AM. |

I've done the first 7 steps successfully, kudos to the people who wrote the guide, but I have a couple of question regarding the last step (and beyond). I might be asking about trivial stuff but I am new to this, so please bear with me:
Mobilread Kindlet Kit > KUAL > MRPI is a legitimate order to install these apps on KT2? Is MKK necessary? In order to install MRPI (and later KOReader as well) I should copy the content of its archive (folders \extension, \mrpackages) into the top level directory of my kindle, so alongside /documents? Can future updates mess with the JB or any of the installed apps? Is update.bin.tmp.partial folder a bulletproof strategy for avoiding OTA updates or should I refrain from using WiFi altogether? Thanks! ![]() |

Are you reading an off-site translation which has modified steps? The functionality of the contents of MKK is contained in what you have already installed. Follow the directions in step #8 - You will be directed to NiLuJe's snapshots thread for MrPI - Find entry in his list for MrPI - Download package from that entry - Also read directions there for dealing with *.xz archives - If you want to know about any of the listed entries - The last field of each listed entry is a link to the directions. Click-through - There find a section titled in red called "INSTALL:" Open spoiler, read, learn how to install not only MrPI but any and all KUAL extensions. Short answer: Yes Nothing about controlling your Kindle is "bullet proof" - Amazon does not seek our approval before changing their software. In the case of controlling forced updates, that is dependent on the Kindle model and firmware version installed at the time the update becomes available. You don't have to do anything, the Kindle calls home more than enough to learn if there is an update for your model - like it or not. Your answer: So far, mostly yes. Some model/firmware combinations will remove that special folder name but then pop up a failure panel for you to read. In those cases, you will have to re-connect to user storage and put the special folder name back in place. The Kindle will have scheduled a re-try date/time on its internal to-do list . . . . But so far as now known, the re-try routine can not handle the special folder name, the re-try routine will silently fail. The usual "legalese" disclaimer: Prior results do not guarantee future results. |

@knc1
Thanks for all the answers! The MKK was mentioned in a readme file for KUAL as a prerequisite but I didn't know that it was contained in what I've already installed. I've gone and done every step in the guide and It worked flawlessly. So thanks again. Only now, after I was reading a .djvu file in KOReader and went and used a zoom feature, Kindle stopped taking inputs. I held the power button, wanting to restart the device but I can't click on the restart button in the dialog. Should I let it be for some time (I'm guessing that processing of .pdf and .djvu documents is intense on the cpu) or is there any other way I could interrupt that process and regain control of the device? EDIT: OK, disregard what I wrote. I went and held the power button for a bit longer and it restarted successfully :facepalm: Last edited by ilovetorrents; 02-16-2017 at 11:51 AM. |

KOreader has its own forum if you have problems with it.

Hate to be That Guy but here goes
![]() I jailbroke my KT3 today, installed the appropriate hotfix, MrPI, and KUAL, checked that KUAL was working (opened, seemed fine) and then went through the [HOME] -> [MENU] > Settings -> [MENU] > Update Your Kindle dance to get the latest firmware but I think that was a mistake, because now KUAL isn't working (Application Error). Any ideas on how to fix? |

After you upgrade to the latest firmware, you have to re-install all the secondary applications. The jailbreak itself is the only part that will stay put.
edit: drop the all into the _______ folder (see post 1; I forget the folder's name) and they will all install at once. |

Normal.
Only the JB is saved/restored across Amazon updates. As advised above, just re-install anything else that seems broke. |
