The Loved One and I take no precautions against pregnancy, but at this stage neither he nor I is likely to become pregnant no matter how hard we try, so you're pretty safe from me trying to sponge a gift.

After a debate my wife and I attended one night, we got into a discussion with another person who had come. After we left, my wife asked me if I noticed how the man was flirting with her. I said I thought he was just being nice, but she insisted that she knew when someone was flirting and when they weren't. We later discovered that he was the editor of the local gay newspaper, Our Own. So much for her knowing when someone is flirting with her!

He and his partner later became quite good friends of ours. I'll never forget the night the alternator went out in our car and he drove us all around Norfolk (Virginia) for the better part of forever until he found a place where we could get the repairs done in the wee morning hours.

What a guy! ...for a flirt!, that is!

actually I have had some gay male friends that were absolutely outrageous flirts!

I guess it depends what you mean by "flirting". It is not unknown for obviously/explicitly gay men to quite openly flirt with women, with the reverse simultaneously occurring. It feels (at least to me, and seemingly to the female friends I have) to be a safe and amusing/ironic way of expressing or initiating emotional intimacy. In my experience it (intentionally) looks very little different to flirtation with courting intent, from either side. From my experience such flirtation rarely occurs between a straight man and a gay man, though I have had, rarely, a very few, close, straight, male friends who are as obviously, unselfconsciously, assured in their own sexuality as I am in mine that such flirty behaviour between us is done in a similar ironically amused way.

It is because it will only ever go part-way down the usual path - that true romance will never muddy the waters - that it happens. Who it happens with often become the best of friends, in my experience.

At this stage, at least in the current state of society I live in, and in my experience, it is predominantly gay men and straight women between which it occurs, perhaps because of limited "complications" occurring in that friendship. A gay man and a straight woman as BFF's is quite common.

Yes, but I was there, and didn't pick up on anything that could be construed as flirting. He was just being nice -- to both of us.
