Excellent point

It's always a good idea to check for Whispersync pricing before getting anything on sale.

I went ahead and started a trial membership. I got my free audiobook, with which I am happy. But, I don't want to keep the membership, for a host of reasons. When I clicked on the button to "cancel account" just now, I got this message:
We're sorry you're thinking of leaving, especially while you still have 17 days of listening left. If you cancel now, your Audiobooks.com account (with access to all of our titles) will be closed immediately.

It sounds like I might lose access to the free audiobook that I received if I cancel my account. I don't want to do that; for one reason, I haven't yet finished listening to it. Has anyone had experience with the Audiobooks.com trial membership and then canceling it, and, if so, did you lose the free audiobook when you did?

Just want to make sure. I can wait a couple of more weeks before canceling and hurry up and finish listening to the audiobook (I'd still like to own it), if I need to, but I don't want to have to be in a rush to do it. And I don't like cutting it close on deadlines, if you understand what I mean.

Oh yeah, this might be important. I don't have an Android or Apple device so as to install their proprietary app. I am having to use the thingie on their website to listen to the audiobook.
It might be worth trying to get the Android app working. I think there are some programs that let you run Android apps on Windows. If I remember correctly, the Android app actually downloads the books as MP3 files, meaning once you download the book you can play it with whatever program you want and you don't have to worry about them disappearing if they go out of business or something.

I have an Android smartphone. But maybe it's not smart enough. ha The phone has only maybe 4 GB of internal memory. I went ahead and added a 32 GB card and, while it does recognize it, it won't use any of that memory for some reason. I've had to work on other things, so for now I have shelved the project of getting it to work.[/QUOTE]

My record of trying to use emulators and such is dismal. I don't think that I even bothered to check to see if there were any emulators or other programs that would let me run Android apps on Windows. I actually prefer to use my laptop for listening to audiobooks, so that would be a nice thing if could find one that worked, and without too much troubleshooting and/or other effort.

What? Go out of business? A tech company? And leave you stranded? I don't believe it! ha I think that someone earlier pointed out that I could transfer an audiobook from Audiobooks.com as an MP3 from an Android app. That will be nice when I finally get the problem with the phone resolved.

Thanks for the tips. Generally speaking, I need all of the help that I can get in life. ha

Well, it looks like the new month can finally begin - Amazon has updated their free Whyspersync for voice title. If you're interested in listening to "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain you can do so by first "buying" the Kindle book here, then getting the Audible version here. Remember, the order matters. This freebie should last until the end of the month (or even longer ) but if you're interested don't delay.

Enjoy!

SYNC - Words in the Dust

I looked, but didn't see this posted.

I received an email from SYNC this morning about the book Words in the Dust. It seems that only 6 parts out of 7 were availabe for download. The email said to delete the book and redownload it to get all the parts.

I'd want to make sure you are cancelling the PAID MEMBERSHIP, not the account, when you are clicking things. That might be why you got the scary sounding warning (about losing all access, and account going away). I mean, if you are clicking on a "delete this account" rather than a "cancel the paid membership". There's probably a difference.

Audible Daily Deal -- exp 06 Jun @ 11:59pm ET

$3.95 -- Diet Cults: The Surprising... -- Matt Fitzgerald/ S Thorne --> 9.4 hrs/ R-4.5 --> health

Quote:
Diet Cults: The Surprising Fallacy at the Core of Nutrition Fads and a Guide to Healthy Eating for the Rest of Us

Whispersync: Audible ($3.95) | Kindle ($9.83)

From the national best-selling author of Racing Weight, Matt Fitzgerald exposes the irrationality, half-truths, and downright impossibility of a "single right way" to eat and reveals how to develop rational, healthy eating habits.

From "the Four-Hour Body" to "Atkins," there are diet cults to match seemingly any mood and personality type. Everywhere we turn, someone is preaching the "one true way" to eat for maximum health. Paleo Diet advocates tell us that all foods less than 12,000 years old are the enemy. Low-carb gurus demonize carbs, and then there are the low-fat prophets. But they agree on one thing: There is only one true way to eat for maximum health. The first clue that this is a fallacy is the sheer variety of diets advocated. Indeed, while all of these competing views claim to be backed by science, a good look at actual nutritional science suggests it is impossible to identify a single best way to eat. Fitzgerald advocates an agnostic, rational approach to eating habits based on one's own habits, lifestyle, and genetics and body type. Many professional athletes already practice this "Good Enough" diet, and now we can too - and ditch the brainwashing of these diet cults for good.

Download the accompanying reference guide.

My apologies. I canceled the account last night, and I was still able to access the one book that I had with them. I meant to make a post to that effect earlier, but forgot to.

Tubemonkey's post, and my reading and re-reading their warning carefully and reading "between the lines" of it, caused me to feel confident that it would work out okay. Someone might think that I was concerned about nothing, but I've seen enough shenanigans from some companies that it would not have surprised me if I had lost the book by canceling.

Thanks.

Reading your post made me so depressed that I had to go out and buy a large order of cheese nachos, along with a large double chocolate milkshake with extra whipped cream, so that I could feel better.
