Oh my ghad, I take this back. I can definitely see the pinkish hue on top and the bluish one below. (Set the brightness screen to 14 and below) and there's it. But it's not as profound as people claim it to be or I don't think it degrades the reading experience somehow. Set the brightness to 15-16 then it's good. I dunno though. I hope mine will go away or it won't get worse as the day goes by. But right now, I can definitely notice it but not to the point that I am irritated by it or it disturbs my reading experience.

My brightness is controlled by the auto setting and it tends to be high, right up to 22 then down to about 14. I notice the discolouration on mine but it doesn't bother me. |

It most certainly does not. I run open Android, and I have very considerable control over my device, and that will not change. If you are happy with the very limited customization features in the Kindle UI, that's fine. But let's not pretend other devices are similarly restricted. The inability to customize and control the Kindle hardware via the UI is absurd and incomprehensible to many otherwise happy Kindle users.

My own PW used to be hacked. I thought it was great. Until I got rid of everything, running only on stock features since then. Now I am even more satisfied with it - instead of fiddling with it I use it only to read. |

It depends on how you look at it...I bought my PW2 with ads...then decided it would be worth it to me not to see the ads. I logged into my Amazon account and chose the option to remove ads--which cost me $20. I don't want to see the ads everytime I open my Kindle--which is at least daily (most days multiple times). So although for the most part, I agree with ryuji that it's not much of a hassle it was worth the $20 to me not to see them.

Let's be clear here, in your opinion, it's not worthy of a $200 device. In my opinion its a much better device. I upgraded from a PW2.

I'm just going to put things into a proper order, KV is a great device, but Amazon politics and anger management is shit.
Also I think I think @barkas meant that you are paying 200$ for a device you can't change anything on. It's great if you love it and you love all preferences(fonts, margins, sizes), you don't wish to add language PV doesn't have, you don't want to read books you wish without converting (epub, fb2...), or just play some simple games (sudoku, takuzu...), and I'm not saying about additional stuff you can think of. It's great but not for me. |

And I bought Kindle PW2(4gb version) precisely because of all additional stuff, for example I use Ukrainian keyboard for search and sometimes browsing, I dislike original margins and I like to spend some free time playing sudoku. If I add that not all my books are in mobi format, and I don't use additional software to convert every book, also pdf books are much more readable in KOreader then in original reader. You see that's why I said: "It's great if you love it and you love all preferences..."
I have my personal preferences and some additional stuff and I can't use it on KV. |
