I could maybe make peace with unsafe optimisations being on by default outside parentheses but I think parentheses should be honored by default unless unsafe optimisations are explicitly enabled. I feel completely entitled to V&R about it. Being technically conforming does not mitigate that, it is part of the cause of the V&R. |

If hardware acceleration is on, try disabling it. Might be a glitchy GPU driver.

I have a relatively new refrigerator. It has an icemaker with a water filter, and the filter needs to be replaced regularly. The owners manual clearly gives part numbers of the filters needed to replace.
When I look for those part numbers online, I see LOTS of third party filters that claim to be compatible. Being a suspicious person, I looked at reviews, especially the most negative reviews, and find a curious thing. So far, although I have not tried to look at EVERY imitation, each one has recent comments that indicate the device *used* to work, but that recent purchases no longer work. To the point of damaging the filter assembly so that NO filters fit - you then need to repair the whole assembly, costing several hundred dollars. WHY?!?!?! why would a manufacturer *change the part's design* without bothering to note that in the product description? At least some of the reviewers post photos that clearly show a difference in the way the filter connects. Do they think that there are so many imitation parts that no-one will damage their reputation? Did the original appliance manufacturer commit espionage to make all the cheap competitors obviously a bad buy? I could see the OEM changing the design of the filter for newly sold models, but this is a case of a replacement part working at first, the not working when purchased again. grrrr. |

I received a letter from the IRS requesting more information for my tax return. No problem. They have 2 ways to submit the form: fax or mail. And they seem to prefer fax. They say if you have don't have a fax machine, you can use an online fax service, but be careful of scams and understand their privacy policy. So as a tax payer, I can electronically send info to some third party who then faxes it to the IRS, vs the IRS providing some electronic service. Wouldn't it make more sense for the IRS to help the filers by providing this "online fax service" itself? The IRS is happy to take my money online, but they can't take documents? I think the Illuminate have infiltrated the IRS, own the USPS and fax companies, and don't want to loose a revenue stream. ![]() Last edited by John F; 04-04-2023 at 06:36 AM. |

regexes
more specifically, googling how to solve a problems within the constraints of a regex and instead getting many suggestions on how to accomplish it without a regex (which i cannot use because of constraints) |

More helpful, I hope, might be this site: https://www.regular-expressions.info It has many examples and discusses many of the regex variants - which I find helpful because my work crosses between a few different sorts of regex. |

Of course there's an xkcd comic
![]() ![]() I make heavy use of regex101 which is a great help but sometimes need to google to get an idea of how to do a specific match or substitute. I've been suggested RegexBuddy but the lack of free trial (just 'give us money upfront and refund if you're unhappy') is putting me off. Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-04-2023 at 12:07 PM. |
