Dear all,

I have successfully JB some PW3(for family and friends, about 6 PW3) last week for the "prevent screensaver" option, so yesterday I was trying to JB mine, but I was stuck at Step6 and the screen display something like "error, unable to update". I was so panic, I check my PW3 model and serial no. make sure I'm using the right initial factory firmware image, and then re-download and re-install bothFactory Image Jail Break and Jail Break Survival Code but the error still came up.

Didn't knew what I did wrong and feel very panic at the moment, and then I did a very stupid thing -- Reset Device. I was hoping I could make a hard reset and do it from Step 1 again, and I totally forgot the NEVER AGAIN USE THE "Reset" MENU ENTRY on the first page...

Now my PW3 was f__ked up.. it can't recognize any file I put in, the free space has only 90mb remians, restart takes an hour..

I knew that it was too late to ask for help now, still wanna post here to ask for some advice before I turn it back to Amazon, and wish no one will do the stupid thing I did anymore.

(It is also on the box and listed in the Amazon "Manage Devices" account page.)

Perhaps we need a warning or a special note of some kind for that model.

all PW3 I bought for family, friends and mine are start with G090G1, I counted I have bought(and JB) 10 PW3 in total, just mine is unlucky

anyway thanks for the JB guide, all my family and friends are happy with their JB PW3

Hi,

I just jailbroke my PW3G with complete success! I followed all the steps and successfully downgraded to 5.7.4 and back to the latest version. I had to do a bit of research through the thread and others to install KUAL and other items in order to enable custom screensavers.

My only issue now is that my Kindle doesn't connect to 3G. It did before the process, but will not now. Any suggestions or solutions?

Your installation of Amazon's latest update brought the firmware back to "stock" (plus the jailbreak certificate file).
Nothing that was added to the system would have changed the 3G features.

It is a problem local to your device (something else that you did or are doing differently or your local cell tower is having trouble) or to the Amazon update version.
This is the only report of 3G problems in seven months.

I suggest you contact Amazon with the problem, it can not be caused by this jail break.

Please keep in mind when reading my response - while I am somewhat knowledgeable with jailbreaking, it has so far been limited to iPhones for the last 8 years - this is my first experience working with kindles, so excuse me if that shows at first.

I lost 3g connectivity after I successfully downgraded to 5.7.4. To be honest I didn't notice this until I had applied the hotfix, so I can't say for sure if it occurred before the installation of the Branch Delay Jailbreak, or before the hotfix. I do know for sure I lost the ability to connect before I updated back to current software.

I didn't do anything other than what was specifically stated in the instructions on page 1, and I followed the correct directions for my device.

What else could affect this?

I will try completely starting over with a fresh wipe, downgrade, jailbreak, etc., and see if I can get connectivity back, keep it, or determine where it gets lost.

A cell tower going down. Other radio problems.
Since yours is the only one that had the 3g fail, it is not a jailbreak problem otherwise we would have heard of it back in July.
So before you do anything, reboot, charge and wait an hour. Then try again.

As Cinisajoy says, put it on a charger, wait, then check for other local problems.

Either Amazon built a special device, just for you, or IT IS a local problem!

Having said the above, OP didn't explicitly state that he later UPGRADED to a later version of Amazon software. It's included in your instructions, but it does imply that it's optional. Perhaps he didn't install ANY other software, and is still at the factory firmware that he downgraded to?

I installed the hotfix here on my PW3 and my screensavers hack was working fine. I connected to the internet and my Kindle updated, and now the screensavers hack isn't working. I think last time I updated I had to run the hotfix afterwards to get it working again but this time it tells me I have an invalid update loaded on my Kindle and deletes it. Any ideas?

You have to reinstall screensaver bin after each firmware update. Also after update you should reboot your Kindle once more to let it reinstall MKK so you can use KUAL... then reinstall screensaver hack.
