I also enjoyed it. So original and thought provoking. I'll have to see what else he wrote to add to my TBR list.

Where do lost books go?

The Babylonian texts thrown in the Tigris by the Mongol invaders of Baghdad. The sequel to Gogol’s Dead Souls burned to ashes by its own creator. The original edition of The Seven Pillars of Wisdom misplaced by T.E. Lawrence in a train station. Are these books destroyed forever in those moments? Or does a piece of them live on?

By day, Darius is a struggling ad writer. One night, he slips into a hitherto undiscovered world where a small group of determined guardians preserve lost books. As he explores this new world, he learns the techniques used for gathering and preserving the lost manuscripts.

But all is not well. Darius’ arrival has set in motion a series of events that threatens to bring down the entire world. If Darius hopes to preserve the Library and all it contains, he must reach within himself to find the strength to face the greatest threat this world has ever known.

Where do lost books go? They go to the Library of Lost Books.
Well that was interesting. I was intrigued by the beginning and kept reading to find out where it was going. It was an adventure, but different than any I had read before. At first, I was caught up in the descriptions and moving forward, but later in the book, I found I started to flip pages to just find out was it was all about. Maybe, this is just not a story for me and others would love it. The writing and descriptions were great and fleshed out characters and setting along with the story, but maybe it was too much description for me? I am not sure why I didn't really like this.

It is an excellent book, IMO. Highly recommended.

I should maybe add that the SFGateway version Way Station was not a great ebook conversion. There were quite a number of OCR errors. Not enough to completely ruin it, but enough to be an irritation.

I'm not sure there isn't a newer version out. I know the Kindle version was originally held back for quality reasons - that was partly why I decided to buy my Kobo Touch. Way Station was the first book I bought for the Kobo, and I've only just got round to reading it.

I will be dropping an email to the publisher with the errors I can remember, so maybe it will get slightly better.

And finished A Grave Denied. This was #13 in the Kate Shugak series, and an excellent novel. The final scene reads true and real, and reminds us all of what community is all about.

I've got a couple of Wen Spencer books here on my TBR, and the next Kate Shugak as well. Not sure which I'll read next, but I do seem to be on a Stabenow roll, so maybe A Taint in the Blood.

Finished the July issue of Lightspeed Magazine. This was a rather mediocre issue, maybe that's why it took me so long to get through it. The story I most enjoyed was a reprint by David Brin, The Giving Plague. The ebook exclusive novella was quite good, too: Lune and the Red Empress by Liz Williams and Alastair Reynolds. The rest was more or less "meh...", even the story by Peter S. Beagle whose stuff I generally enjoy. I think I just don't like talking animals (it was about a mouse that went to cat school to learn to be a cat).

All the short stories are available for free at the Lightspeed website.

The two embark on a tap-dance of fascination, revulsion, cat-and-mouse games co-dependent relationship that tears apart Archie's life and family. It's a stunningly original premise for a mystery series, beginning with Heartsick in 2007, and continuing into its fifth installment Kill You Twice. This is NOT a series for the squeamish, as Gretchen's myriad methods of murder are lovingly described in gut churning grisly detail. Cain's books are compulsively readable - as you wonder what Gretchen won't do next ....

Cain has put the thrill back into the thriller genre.
No wonder Chelsea Cain writes about a blonde female killer. She lived in a commune in Iowa. Probably fantasized about killing everyone just to get out.

Currently reading The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King. I didn't realize it was written in 1994. Did it suddenly experience a resurgence?

Why do you wonder that?

Laurie King's book about Mary Russell are very poplular and The Beekeeper's Apprentice is the first book in the series. So I assume new people finding the series will start with that book.

I don't know about a resurgence, but I just finished reading the complete series not very long ago and that includes a novella titled Beekeeping for Beginners that describes some of the same events as in The Beekeeper's Apprentice from Holmes' point of view. The 11th book in the series, Pirate King was released last September and a 12th book, Garment of Shadows is scheduled for release next month.

Just finished two Robert McCammon books. Love his writing style:

"Mine". Chilling tale set in the 60's. It is a story about a psychotic drugged-out woman who steals a baby so she can present him to an old boyfriend as a "gift".

And, Usher's Passing. Horrible secret of the Usher family - aristocratic descendants from Edgar Allen Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher"
