Right now - trying to work out when the NHS got taken over by aliens. They've sent through some info one something or other, with a prepaid envelope if you want the leaflet in one of about eleventy languages. The address to return it to starts:

That has to be a remake. Here's the trailer from the first film in 1962:

Just back from the vet and trying to overcome the shock with a cuppa. The shit (8.3 kg cat) has been in a fight on Monday night and now has developed an abscess on his chest. Arrrrrgh. Was a fight to get him into the carrier as usual and exhausted both of us.

As I don't have a car I had to ring hubby to pick us up. The vet is very good but from the doomsday category and always tells the worst case scenarios which in this case could be leprosis. After wrestling with the cat for a bit at the vets we got fluid out of the abscess and that didn't look pretty either.

Now I am back home and start popping valiums as I need to be prepared for a tough night: the cat can't have his midnight treat (the 8.3 kg have to come from somewhere ), he can't go out (*sigh* he refuses the use of a litter box) and he has to go back to the vet tomorrow morning by 8. Surgery for scrapping out the cavity and inserting a drain.

As if a sleepless night with a yowling cat won't be enough, he will have the last surgery of the day and will then be released back into our care with a collar. And of course, all of that will be my fault.

Oh, and did I mention the upcoming bill? I should have become a vet - way back when I made the choice. They must be raking it in with all us suckers who love their pets around. Oh, yes - the blood test, the surgery, the consultation, the antibiotics and the drip he will be on during surgery. Not to forget the cost if he has to stay overnight. All that adds up to another flight to the land with the long white cloud (that's New Zealand in case you didn't know).

I'd rather go and visit my in-laws than have to take my cat to surgery. Poor sucker won't know why I abandon him in that nasty place and I will feel sooo bad again. Although I do get a good shuckle when it's time to measure his temperature - he has clued up and the moment he sees the thermometer his behind goes to the ground and stays there as if clued to the table . Smart cat.

Well, that's what I am doing atm: feeling bad that I took him to the vet, popping valiums and feeling bad that I have to take him again in the morning.

I highly recommend locking him in the bathroom with a litterbox (you never know!) for a few hours while you sleep. he will pick up on your agitation and it will only be worse. you both need alone time

I feel your pain. But lucky we have a large garage. Put cat in with bean bag and towels(he had drains in his head from abcess)(Those are my diamond earrings). The collar causes more pain than letting him scratch the wound so off it came immediately.

Litter box supplied never gets used. He will hang on forever. Thats another story about hernia surgery(I call that my diamond ring).

Stay calm. I am sending you relaxavibes.

I wish that would work. The bathroom is next to bedroom and he is one vocal cat. And he will cross his legs till he falls over. Had to keep him in one time for 2 days and he wasn't using it.

But we will be fine. The valium should take care of my agitation and none of us, including the neighbours will get any sleep. Well, hubby excluded, he can fall asleep anywhere.

We have a large garage too - full of escape holes and hiding places. No way I would find the cat in there. Beanbag is being ignored atm.

You must be shopping at the same place for jewellery than me . Not sure if the collar will actually hurt anything but his pride but we will see.

And thanks for the vibes. Either they have already arrived or the drugs started to kick in

that's awful! back when I had barn cats if I had to bring them in for doctoring or whatever, they'd use the litterbox even though they weren't used to it!
