Seriously, my wife has some 20 or so orchids out on the stairs (ours is a second floor condo unit with outside stairs) and a couple tied to the palm tree of which about six are blooming. Thai basil and African Blue basil are both perennial - they're tender, though. The area I had them in isn't usually hit by frost, but this year it was - twice. Normal basil I don't have any problems growing (I usually end up making a lot of pesto towards the end of the growing season to use it all up!).

We've just planted some Thai Basil, which seems to be liking our climate better than the ordinary stuff. We've also had better luck with the saw-toothed coriander than with the normal stuff. The mint seems happy too.

The two lime trees are doing fine. The Tahitian is growing well, and the Kaffir is following. We occasionally have to hunt a stinkbug or two off them, but they're not badly attacked.

My three trees are going well. One is getting close to beating the second story of the house. They're blocking some of the view, but they're also nice to look through. They're definitely trees now though, in the sense of we'd have to apply to local council to bring them down. And they're flowering, so the birds are coming, and hopefully finally noticing the "green corridor" they provide past our house.

The palms are dropping leaves and flowering like all get-out. I'll have to chop the flower-branches, before they fruit. The might bring in the bats and our local possum, but they also send palm shoots up by the hundreds when they fall. I'll probably leave a few flower-branches along the fence, for possum-friend.

We still haven't worked on our new vegetable gardens - they're still just sand. Well get there though. We just have to find out what grows well around here and that we eat a lot of.

Our cycads have got huuuuuge.

Bjones, if that's your yard I feel very sorry for you.

Our last home had over a dozen LARGE oak trees in it with oak woods on two sides. And for those not familiar with oaks, they ain't nice trees. It was common for them to take three to five months to drop all of their leaves.

The new home only has two maple trees. Nice polite trees. Leaves drop in about three to four weeks. Nice trees.

I just wish it was the yard! That's the SIDEWALK. (And the street - hard to tell the difference!)

Yes - that looks like my front & side yard now! The front sidewalk periodically vanishes as the trees slowly de-leaf!

My tomato plants are still growing tomatoes! They are few and tiny but tasty, and apparently are still maturing. I think I'll have a few for dinner tonight. I took the plants inside the kitchen about a month ago, probably too soon in light of the mild temperatures we've been having. The basil is also still alive but I never did much with it. I love the smell of it but never seem to remember to actually eat it. The rocket stopped growing long ago but there are still a couple of tiny leaves I haven't eaten. And my bowl of grass is luxuriantly green. I took a photo a while ago but I'm too lazy to upload it. anyway it's not that interesting, it's just green grass, but I like it.

I wonder if I will have poppies in the spring, I sowed poppy seeds I picked up during the summer but I have no idea if they will grow.
