That was not a full screen menu, that was a cropped down image. However, if you don't like it being wide like that for the time it takes to pick your program... then you are able to adjust it to a more comfortable width by dragging the right border.

It is different than windows 7... IMHO if you use it for a week I think you will get used to seeing it and will come to appreciate the benefits!

Cheers!

edit:
You can also resize the start vertically by dragging the top border.

I thought I could get it in Windows 10, by not putting any live tiles on the start menu. But then you cannot pin anything. And that "All programs" thing is way too bulky. I can see more entries in my leaner version of the start menu in Windows 7.
You can disable the live tile by right-clicking on the tile and selecting "turn live tile off". You can still pin and unpin to the start just fine. You can also resize tiles to your preference by right clicking and selecting resize (small, medium, wide, large).

You are referring to a movie DVD, right?

The disc spun back down, I fiddled around waiting for controls to become active (non-grey).

One thing I will add is that my system seems noticeably faster and way less disc thrashing without the Norton/Symantec antivirus krapola going all the time in the background!

Not really suprised, but just hope my trust in MS System Defender is not misplaced!

Trust your eyeballs first. If the item (link, unsolicited attachment) looks fishy, you will not need the smell attachment (WD) in the first place.

I always look at the link code (on the status line). Obscured (or hidden by a tinyURL) and I need to think about where the link came from (Just because my sister sent it... She got hacked . I also knew something the scammer did not ) .

Unfortunately, there is now drive by (hover) malicious code, so some protetcion is still needed.

Oh yeah, I've been in this business long enough to have no trust.
Always assume the worst and you'll never be disappointed.

(fixed my typo above - home/hope sheesh!)

Way back when I did use both Norton/Symantec antivirus but as time went on they both bloated up and slowed my systems down.

So switched to Avast anti virus. But when win7 came out and offered its built in anti virus I decided to try it out and been using Win defender ever since. And so far so good as long as I also run CCleaner and Malwarebytes now and then.

Win defender does now and then need to be run in full scan mode along with current updates. It will be interesting how win 10 keeps things safe along with windows firewall.

Thanks. Malwarebytes gets run at least weekly here. A few years back I got some malware or trojan.....and windows defender was the only thing that would detect and remove it.

Took the leap of Faith and upgraded to Windows 10 when I got my notification. So far no problems just learning all the new changes that took place. I love having Cortana on my labtop!

uninstall the update from windows update history. open windows update look at update history , uninstall update KB3035583 . in the future when doing windows updates make sure to look at the optional updates and uncheck the box for KB3035583 so it doesnt install. as long as that is not installed you wont get the messages back.

Yes, definitely movie DVD's.

I did some tests for you on an older PC regarding your sound distortion finding and from those I suspect it will be the audio driver you are using.

I did not test a lot of drivers because I immediately found the following.

On the test machine the movie DVD audio was fine if the standard High Definition Audio driver was used. I then installed the SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio drivers (which I know work fine on this machine under Windows 8.x and earlier) and the movie DVD audio was then distorted. I then tried an Audio CD in the same drive (with Winamp player which I chose because I know it has not been updated for a long time, so pre-Windows 10) with the SoundMAX driver and there was no audio, but again it played fine with the standard High Definition Audio driver.

So it seems there may be some Windows 10 audio driver issues around, not that I have discovered any here during normal use (and I use several DSP applications on PCs for other work), either the drivers themselves or as between the driver and the media playing application used (I think you said that movie DVD sound was ok for you with VLC and Windows 10?).

Bingo!
Integrated SoundMax HD driver

BUT VLC played it fine to Default (which is the Same device, since I have yet to install my other sound options)
