Just under 300 people are without power in Tidewater, and 600+ in North Carolina. Lots of flooding, but all things considered, we got off pretty light. We have power, and I'm hoping poohbear_nc does.

Everything flooded yesterday - streets blocked off, parking lots became lakes, etc. We lost power during the night, but it's back on now. Still very gusty ... so there may be more outages today as trees continue to fall.
Sunny & cool & breezy today ... will venture out later to the grocery store. |

Fallen trees, power outages, stalled cars everywhere. Otherwise the afternoon has turned out pretty good.

My mother in law just called. It freaked me out because she never calls anymore.
The town is a mess. They are okay but freaking out. Fayetteville has never flooded like this. There's have been several dam failures there. They are not stuck and have access to stores. My mother in law must be really scared to call. She said several of her friends homes have been flooded. I'm watching WRAL News. It looks horrible. Sent from my XT1528 |

It's just going to get worse downstream from Fayetteville as the central flood plains drain into the Neuse and Tar rivers. |

Sorry to hear that so many folks are still suffering the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, etc.
Things have been pretty nice around here. We've had a few beautiful early autumn days with temps in the low to mid 60s, full sun, and moderate breezes. The dogwood and Virginia creeper have gone from green to various shades of red and some of the stronger breezes have brought light showers of leaves. |

The Tar and Neuse rivers are still rising -- 38' and climbing -- might crest on Friday. The NC east coast is going to be inundated for weeks.

My friend who lives on a island of NC out near the ocean has not been allowed to return yet.

Matthew was a bit deceptive in my neck of the woods. It wasn't suppose to be very strong at all. This was blocking a road leading out of our neighborhood.
There was lots of flooding with the accompanying stalled and abandoned vehicles. Here's another overturned tree in Portsmouth's City Park. I didn't do more driving than necessary the day after the storm. |

Big storm headed this way. It's the remnants of Typhoon Songda and will slam the Oregon and Washington coasts with rain, high waves, and hurricane force winds.
Puget Sound (where I live) won't be hit as hard, but we could still see winds gusting to 65 mph. We'll definitely see trees and power lines going down; hopefully not in my neighborhood. But if it happens, I have the house wired to a generator. My only concern is losing my net connection. If that happens, I have lots of music, audiobooks, and videos to keep me occupied. |
