The new list of initial choices is up. You can now pick an additional 10.

Wow that was fast coming up with the new list. I haven't looked at it yet. Did they just slap some new names on there? Like quickly going through the last couple of years and filling some quotas? That isn't really the point of inclusion is it. Maybe they need to increase the blogger base they have so they have more voices to begin with?
Would it be better to just let folks name 100 as they did in the past rather than making a pre-list? I have no idea. I can never vote on that poll as I cannot rate the books I read. I just can't do it. I can't even pick 100 from a list. I'd waffle about it for years. ![]() Oh well. At least I usually know a few names on their poll. Every time the goodreads reader poll comes up I go huh? I tend to not read whats currently popular in romance it seems. That's ok though. There is a lot to pick from. Its why I hated when they eliminated the infinite top best selling lists on amazon. Now you can only see the top 100. But there was a time years ago you could just go down and down. And I would love to go to the 500-1000 best selling stuff in subgenres and find a lot of cool stuff that way. Now its just popularity lists, which is not at all the same thing of course. Somehow this seems to take the fun out of that poll, doesn't it. Not that having to pick 100 favorite books out of ones list is fun ![]() eta: oh dear. Looking at twitter they seemed to have misspelled a lot of the new names they added. I guess they tried to rush it out for the backlash they got. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they scrap the whole thing. They can't win anymore now based on what I see on twitter. Last edited by Atunah; 04-10-2018 at 11:25 AM. |

It's their own fault. They have shown they are not all about romance. They had to go to Goodreads to find authors of color which shows none if them read any. I don't even see Beverly Jenkins on the list.
![]() At this point they should just go back to the old system. It worked fine. Let the readers decide which books. Sent from my Nexus 7 |

I think they just tried to slap it up to quick, the new list that is. I haven't read any Jenkins myself either. I did read the first in the HR of Alyssa Cole and I liked it, but it would not be in a top 100 list if I made one. And to be honest I have/had no idea that the author is a AOC. With some I know because I have seen their pictures somewhere, or have seen them speak, but I don't search out authors on a personal level and I don't do facebook. I just read what I want and I usually go with the theme I like to read. Jenkins I haven't read mostly because I don't know where to start. But I have that issue with other authors that have a large backlist out. Do I start at the beginning or do I start with their latest one. But at this point, I just don't see how they can make anyone happy. If they don't read a lot of books by non whites, well then they don't. Its not like they can just change that overnight. So let the readers put up their choices and go from there. That way they are taking themselves out of it. That is how they used to do it anyway. ![]() |

I didn't use to seek out if an author is aoc but the book club I'm in promotes them so that's how I found Beverly Jenkins. I'm changing for the better. I now know they do not get the promotion from publishers like they should so yes I'm seeking them out because you'll miss alot otherwise. I usually just go with what Avon releases but last year my eyes were opened when Alyssa Cole books came out and we had a discussion. I start seeing who I can find and added several to my the list now I just need find time to read them all. You will find several on KU as well. Agreed AAR needs to go back with the old method. Thanks, I'll check out those Jenkins titles. I am not really into Westerns at all so I haven't read a lot of those period, no matter who the author.

I really have no idea if the authors I read are black or white or yellow or red or purple or green. I like to read books, not look at pictures of the person that wrote them. I'm not on social media at all and I check out my favorite authors' websites to find out what new books are coming from them. Not interested in the pictures or blogs or anything else.

![]() I hadn't read Brenda Jackson or Beverly Jenkins before I got my Kindle, and since most of the time I don't pay attention to covers, I'd read several books of each before I realized the characters weren't of the same skin color as myself. |

I don't read many comtempories that aren't romantic suspense or the hero isn't in LE of some kind. Contemporary romance without suspense or a bad boy such as rock star, MMA fighter, military bores me tears. There are a few exceptions but they are rare. In historical romance I like regency or medevial although I have recently discovered May McGodrick and are enjoying them. I'm not really into Scottish highland romance. My first love will always be paranormals. I love my vampires, shifters and urban fantasy. I'm trying to expand my reading choices but I'm just so picky. Top authors for me are Nalini Singh, Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, Tiffany Snow, Chloe Neill, Connie Brockway, Mary Balogh. I like wordsmiths. Strong writers who use their words to paint a story with a strong storyline and good characterization. I can't get into Tessa Dare I've tried. Grace Burrowes I tried as well. Christi Caldwell as well. There are too many comtempories I have DNF to list. I got worn out of westerns years ago. Anything cowboy I usually pass by. I may read once in a blue moon which is why it will take me a long time to read through Beverly Jenkins backlist. I really have to be in the mood for a western. She has two modern suspense titles I may have to try those first. Sent from my XT1528 |
