Same here. I picked up the sixth one in a remainder book store. I enjoyed it, despite it asking a lot of indulgence, but wasn't in too much of a hurry to read any more. It was only when I found On Basilisk Station on the Baen Free Library that I came back to it.

I see it as a bit of a guilty pleasure. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay much for any of it.

I finished an awful book titled "Le Combat d'Hiver", and I'm thinking of what to read next.

I've finished reading Earth Unaware by Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston. It's the start of a new prequel trilogy to Ender's Game and tells the story of the first Formic war. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The attention used in crafting the world and the true to life characters were great. For me it was a welcome return to the Enderverse.

I finished Where Shadows Dance (#6 Sebastian St. Cyr) by C.S. Harris today. I like how the characters develop during the course of this series. What I did notice was that with each new book the mystery is a bit more complicated, with more and more suspects involved which makes it a bit hard to follow at times.

I've just started James Clavell's Tai-Pan and if I'm still in the mood for long books after this I have The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough lined up next.

May I inquire of you as to the reason for your finishing "an awful book". That seems like a waste of time in my view!

I am re-reading The Hobbit. I actually fell asleep with Tolkien's world in my mind and my cat tucked into the crook of my arm. *happy sigh*

Anyone know how to get authorized reader award? It is driving me nuts! And I was already more than halfway there.
I am currently reading gone with the wind with about 3 more books open. Was thinking about trying the 50 shades of grey trilogy but I am just unsure if I would like it.

I finished this month's book club selection Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters.

I've started reading the Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey. It's an interesting premise.

Quote:
This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they profess to want: They are allowed outside.

Looking forward to working my way through the series.

Additionally Dean King's "A Sea of Words" which provides a lot of definitions and historical background on the novels is now available as a Kindle edition .
Yes, I saw the sale, but didn't buy. Couldn't really justify it, since that's one series we definitely have in pBook. In many ways, Master and Commander is the least of them, though it sets the stage for the series. It takes a while to really get the feel for the Jack and Steven and their wonderful relationship.

Cool Earl Derr Biggers and Dana Stabenow

Oh well, back to my Charlie Chan Omnibus with Charlie Chan Carries On.
Finished reading Charlie Chan Carries On and it didn't disappoint. Now on to the next (#12) Kate Shugak book, A Fine and Bitter Snow by Dana Stabenow.

I just found a Jack Reacher novel I hadn't read before!!!
"Worth Dying For" is a typical Reacher read, not quite up to par with earlier books as far as the plot goes, but still plenty of sock-em, rock-em Jack Reacher action!

Finished Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia. Now first, this is completely not my political world view, and I don't even own a gun. But I put all that aside and just had fun with it. There is so much violence that it stops being violent, and just becomes funny. In some spots, laugh out loud funny. Would I recommend it? Yeah, but with reservations. Will I read later books in the series? Probably, but not right away. A steady diet of this would not be my cup of tea.

Now, back to something I know I'll enjoy -- Dana Stabenow's Kate Shugak. #10 in the series, Midnight Come Again. Like all the Stabenow books, I read this when it first came out, but only as an Audible book. So looking forward to going back and reading it as an eBook.

Just finished Ha Jin's The Crazed. Very enjoyable.

Now it's off to work on the Discworld reading challenge with Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett.
