I think the only ones that may have sweet 16's would be the same ones that have debutante balls. last I checked those were few and far apart!
Thanks. That's interesting. I think every girl in my high school (and I went to a huge school, 1352 kids in my graduating class,) had a Sweet 16 party. The only differences were the venues and the number of people invited. I guess the majority of them were held at home. But I don't remember any of the girls I grew up with NOT having some sort of Sweet 16 party. Really just a more formalized birthday party. I remember that I had to buy my girlfriend a corsage, and getting really flustered trying to pin it on her while her parents looked on! I was afraid her father would shoot me!

There was this show on MTV a while ago, "My sweet 16" or something like that about girls from filthy rich families organising huge parties ...

Here in Belgium we usually give a big party when we reach 18, because that's when you're considered an adult (by the law anyways), and when you can start driving a car, buying booze, ... At least, I gave a big party when I turned 18, and most of my friends did too. I reckon it hasn't changed that much in the last 6 years.

KK, happy birthday from me as well! I hope you had a fun day

Morning ....

Black Coffee#1

Our little experiment seems to be working somewhat - we are both sleeping better than before - whether due to the coffee change, we don't know...

We mix 1 packet of strength 4 de-caf to 1 of strength 3 caf....

Weird. I never even KNEW anybody who had a Sweet 16 party. Maybe more of a regional thing where you were? Of course, I never knew anybody who did the debutante thing either!

I think you may have hit it. Probably is a regional thing. Most of these girls weren't from rich families. At least I know for sure my girlfriend's family wasn't. Her father was an accountant in some company and her mother was a housewife. The parents slept on a bed behind a screen in the living room and my girlfriend and her younger sister shared the bedroom. Nice folks and nice comfortable space, but no frills. The parents were ecstatic that their daughter was going steady with 'the doctor's son!'

I'm settling in for an hour of TV with a glass of Bombay Sapphire. I wonder if I would like it as much if they changed the name to Mumbai Sapphire?

Well, since we're all sharing our age: I'll turn 25 at the end of August

Sipping a cup of Rooibos Cinnamon Plum. Yum

I really need to go out to buy some tea cans and get some order in my tea collection, but all I want to do today is lie on the couch with a book and watching my two cute cats play together.

Same here.

'bout Sweet 16's - I don't recall anyone I know celebrating with a huge party but as someone else said, it is probably a regional thing. I remember getting a corsage (from my then-boyfriend) and my parents taking me out to dinner, but that was about it.

see, I was thinking big fancy party. I was taken out to a nice dinner by my folks and given a pair of ruby earrings (birthstone), and did the same thing with my daughter, she got a pair of sapphire earrings.

Hi all.
How is little Oni?
my daughter competed in draft horse competitions all through jr. and sr. high school (think the big budweiser wagons). one of the competitions had them driving a pattern that they had to remember around the little orange traffic cones. there was one boy that she was extremely competitive with, they traded off first and second for years, and would trade off state championships as well. the first year she won state, they actually had to get out a ruler to measure the tire tracks going around the cones. that was the first year she won state. Incidentally, the young man now drives full time for the "Express Hitch" and for whatever reason was chosen to drive the "royal couple" at the Calgary Stampede;
