I'm really getting annoyed at those weather forecasters that say it's "raining in the whole country" or "it's snowing in the whole country", or "the roads in the whole country are slippery", when they mean only the west and south... I get the feeling most of those people don't even know of the existence of the north part...

Who is "in the middle of the road" you or the auto?

You do realize that in most (if not all) states auto's must yield to pedestrians in their half of the roadway EVEN if the pedestrian is crossing illegally or ignoring traffic signals?

You don't want to test this... if you hit a pedestrian that is in the road way you are going to be at fault and get ticketed or worse.

the charge Vehicular Manslaughter comes to mind as one of many, nevermind the civil court damages...

Harmless solution for those of us with cameras on our phones: Get it out and take their picture, make sure they see you doing it. You can't actually do anything useful with it but boy will it make them mad. And while I normally don't advocate using a cell phone while driving, if they can make you wait that long then you have the time and the car isn't actually moving.

Stitchawl reminds me of an enviromental problem that has been swept under the rug far too long - Dihydrogen Monoxide.

Yes. It IS one of those "science" things that people have a hard time understanding. But you have to make an effort to understand how Dihydrogen Monoxide (or DHMO) is capable of affecting all life on earth.

NO. I am NOT being an alarmist! Just a few of the facts;
  • Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
  • Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
  • Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
  • DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
  • Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.

This compound is often used in some repugnant ways;
  • as an industrial solvent and coolant,
  • in nuclear power plants,
  • in the production of Styrofoam,
  • in biological and chemical weapons manufacture,
  • in the development of genetically engineering crops and animals,
  • as a major ingredient in many home-brewed bombs,

Both lists go on and on!

Learn the details! Protect our inviroment by ridding the world of Dihydrogen Monoxide.

Okay, so the score is: 1 person got it, and 1 person with no sense of humor.
Considering the general public didn't know about the existence of free radicals until maybe 15 years ago, I guess I can call that a good breakdown.

Nope. It's all true.

And to add to the list - It's also been used by torturers. (Invented by the Chinese, I might add.)

OH MY GOD... we must get this stuff banned... er wait...

Isn't that just a fancy way of say H20? Which is, if I am not mistaken, water?

This reminds me of a skit on some show... perhaps Jamie Kennedy show, I can't recall, where they were going up to women on the streets asking them to sign a petition to "End women's suffrage"... and so many women were out raged that it was allowed and signed the petition.
