OK, I arbitrarily declare Bilbo1967 the winner, since he got the more difficult sequences.

The two nobody got were

g) 1, 6, 15, 28, ?

The Hexagonal Numbers, the next being 45.

and

j) 6, 28, 496, 8128, ?

The Perfect Numbers, the next being 33550336 (I did say people could look that one up!)

There are only 48 known perfect numbers, and no-one knows whether there are a finite or an infinite number of perfect numbers. It's known that there are at least as many perfect numbers as there are Mersenne Primes, and the corresponding perfect number to each Mersenne Prime is even. It is not known whether there are any odd perfect numbers.

Paul, while in my limited fashion I can understand the 'uses' of Geometry and trig (if not actually use them myself,) so I'm not all bad, but to what purpose do 'Perfect Numbers' serve?

They are just interesting. For instance, it's been proved that any even perfect number expressed in base ten ends in 6 or 28.

Some people like maths.

I had to take an accounting class as a pre-req for my MBA and MPA. (My undergrad degrees weren't in business.) Each class, the teacher would spend the first 5 minutes showing everyone some new and special 'trick' for manipulating numbers, such as how to add up a column of 5-diget numbers in your head, etc. He was always so incredibly excited taking about these that it was a pure delight listening to him, even if I had no idea what he was talking about!

While we wait for Bilbo1967 to provide a quiz, here's a quick question that's this week's Richard Wiseman's Friday Puzzle:

Yesterday my friend and I started to walk down a road. We began our walk at the same time, from the same point, and headed in the same direction. I walk at a constant speed of 5 km/h and my friend walks at a constant speed of 6 km/h. Throughout the walk a dog ran between the two of us again and again, with a constant speed of 10 km/h

How far did the dog travel in 1 hour?

All the rest are red herrings, designed to trap those who think it's a mathematical puzzle when it's really a spotting the essentials puzzle.
