It's wet, cold and windy out there, but it seems that most of the snow passed south of us. (Sorry, WT Sharpe.)

We had some sleet, but not nearly what was predicted.

Ours was sleet as well. It was only in the very first moments of the event when I saw snowflakes.

Today is another chilly one, but we may have seen the last of the frost warnings for this year, although we had one a couple of days ago and had to bring in the potted plants.

The high temps for the day were in the low 50s, but it was breezy and very cloudy. Without direct sunlight it felt even colder.

A beautiful day over here, as well. Temps were in the mid-to-upper 60s (F), but felt even warmer in the sun. And, since there were no clouds, there was no problem staying in the sun.



When the West Nile virus first spread through this area in 2000 there was a dramatic die-off in the bird population -- especially in crows and blue jays. It wasn't unusual to see dead birds in the street by the curb. We missed the usual chickadees, nuthatches, etc., in the fall brush.

Over the years the smaller birds have been returning and their populations are just about where they used to be. Last year I saw (and heard) the first crows in years. Now, the blue jays just about back to where they were. It's good to hear -- and, occasionally, see -- them while I'm on the deck with tea and a good read.
